Husky 266SE rebuild

*First of all Hello from Northern New Mexico to this forum and Arboristsite !

A couple of years ago I landed a older 266SE , recently did a rebuild using Meteor 52mm kit, new Tillotson carb.
Boy what a difference !
I've been a Stihl fan for years but fear I'm going over to "The Dark Side" as my ranch mates say.
In addition I just took in trade a 1994 288XP {NICE}
All this to say .....Thanx one and all for your postings , they were a big incentive regarding my choice to do the rebuild .

Welcome to the dark side. Husqvarnas are great saws. You chose one of the best Husqvarna saws ever built in the 266 class. Most of there other saws in the series are good too. Husky offers one heck of a quality line up of saws.

Hmmmm......52MM???.....266 is but 50MM......if yours if 52MM it's been converted to a 272XP or clone thereof.....

yes , I do believe you are correct, the 266se became a 272 clone , The fella was actually looking to buy it , he was so impressed with weight / power / size ....that he traded me his 288XP for it

I bought a ''rough looking'' 266XP last year, the guy told me it was his brothers falling saw. He said, it had a 52mm conversion big bore, and, a carb from a 272, he ran a hotter plug in it, and that it ran pretty strong. I will say this, after not being started for about 2 months, choke on, switch on, 3 pulls it fired right up! I was really surprised, how good it runs. Almost all the rubber mounts are shot, so those have to be replaced, But, to the saw's credit, i'm really surprised how well it runs, all things considering. Going to put a new chain on it, and see how it really works.

I have another 266xp, i know its back ground, and know the mechanic who tuned it up. It was a cutters falling saw, and its a pretty good looking old saw. Runs like a champ, its got a cracked top cover, but, fixed that. This one's a beast, with a 24'' bar and it cuts great. Really like these old 266 Xp's

My introduction to Husqvarna was an old 55 Rancher one of my ranch-mates gave me about 5 years ago. It was a beater , I gladly accepted it put a lot of my time and some cash into it....turned it into my camp /hunt/ keep in the truck box "go to saw" .
Worked for a local horse breaker here that traded me her 266SE for my 55 . I have a well rounded arsenal of saws ....now half of them are Huskys.
- got this 268 in trade for some range-fence pull'n

Nice 268.........keep your eye open for the Mahle 50MM P&C for it.....The Gilardoni P&C is a very well made open port set up but lacks the flow/output/power of the closed port XP Mahle units.
