We have a California Pepper tree in the backyard of our new home The tree was planted 5 years ago when the home was newly built and is near 25 feet tall now. We don't think it's ever been pruned and there are at least a half dozen exposed roots within a 10-foot diameter of the tree. We hope to install an in-ground concrete pool approximately 10-15 feet away from the tree but we are concerned about two issues: 1) that when digging for the pool, damage to the roots may kill the tree and 2) if the tree survives, that new root growth may damage the pool. We really don't want to lose the tree and we really want the pool. Are our concerns valid?
