Does anyone have a clue as to what specific Oak this could be? Scrounged here in eastern KY, looks to be around 40 years old and about a 10” diameter. Very yellow under bark, I assume a type of Red oak but sure as to which.

Near impossible to be sure what species of oak without seeing the leaves. It is definitely oak, of the red variety. I agree with pin oak.

I agree on Black oak. That yellow layer inside the bark is a common feature of Black.

After a little research it looks like Black Oak is a winner. Stated to have a very yellow pigment just under the bark. Supposedly it used to be called Yellow Oak but now that name is reserved for a type of White Oak. The region I live is on the map so I guess that’s some good indication, thanks folks.
