It came from a dealer on consignment. Before he sold it to me, he tore it down and made sure everything was right. He said looked brand new inside. It runs great. I'm thinking of selling it.

The 266 & 268 are priced between $175 to $400 depending on the condition, wether it’s a xp or se or nothing and how they run. Its been a roller coaster ride price wise on these. At auction sites I seen slow bidding, no bidders, then a bee hive flurry of busy bidders. It can go either way. The last 268 I bid on had very little action bid wise but the saw looked like new condition wise right down to the decals. For $300 it was a heck of a buy. For me anyway. It was an easy $400 saw but had hardly any bidders go figure.

The “xp” saws have larger carbs, means extra power.
What does the SE mean on the early saws?

Everytime I have extra money something comes up unexpected and takes it. Sometimes it’s calm seas and sometimes it’s a hurricane in life. Material things mean nothing, family and friends mean everything.

268s were open port, 268xps were closed port. there MAY be some 268s out there with closed port cylinders but they were different.
I see. Well then, things were very different in Missouri!
In Australia, all 268s were closed port. The open port semi-pro equivalent was labelled '66' .

EDIT: I found a combined 272/268 IPL online which lists a Gilardoni cylinder and piston (I can tell the manufacturer by the part number) for the 268, and a closed port cylinder for the 272.
In that case, the 71cc 272 would be about 12% more powerful than the 67cc 268.

What does the SE mean on the early saws?

If I ever did know exactly what SE meant, it's gone from my memory now. However, my brain has retained this much.
SG = heated handles (G is for generator)
FE = felling cushion (F is for Nordfeller)

SE was gradually replaced by XP (just another marketing designation) possibly at different times in different ways in different markets.

If the 268XP sold in North America has a larger carb than the 268SE, it doesn't mean that all XPs have larger carbs than SEs.
