CAD is firmly taking hold.

After much internal debate, and wanting a Stihl saw with a rear handle, while being a "pro" level saw and also being lightweight, I opted to get a MS-201 C-EM. It seems to be a bit of an outlier. But, man, it felt gooooood in my hands, in spite of looking a bit funky.

I have a 362CM as my main saw. I wanted a light and nimble saw to compliment my pole pruner and my 362.

I should have it no later than Monday. :)

Now I'll have the "small" box checked. The "medium" box is also checked.

Awaiting that 500i... patiently....:baba:

I think you can get an 8 tooth spur in 1/4 pitch and 6 tooth spur that will work with the picco 3/8 in both 0.050 and 0.043. Plan on testing them all out? Any other options for that powerhead that you know about?

I don't think so - I don't really have reason to change the spur.

you will like it , love my 201 rear handle so much nicer then trimming with my 550xp

my three saw plan ms201----- 550xp---- ms461

maby some day a big enough tree will fall to need a bigger saw

.

Nice little saw. When you get the box and set it up, might want to check the instruction manual, that should be in the box, for initial start up procedures. Get it off on the right foot.

Already downloaded and read the manual!

what did i miss in manual that different except winter shutter ??
this??
NOTICE

Open the throttle only when the chain brake is off. Running the engine at high revs with the chain brake engaged (chain locked) will quickly damage the engine and chain drive (clutch, chain brake).

During the break-in period

A factory new machine should not be run at high revs (full throttle off load) for the first three tank fillings. This avoids unnecessarily high loads during the break-in period. As all moving parts have to bed in during the break-in period, the frictional resistances in the shortblock are greater during this period. The engine develops its maximum power after about 5 to 15 tank fillings

We're on the same page. :)

Thank you! You hit the nail on the head - light and fast! With the weight so nicely centered between the hands, and the saw weighing so little to begin with, you can just drive and dart about with the bar any and every which way.

Nice! Report back after you use it?

I almost bought a 201cem but ended up with a 241 after reading all the raving reviews - and being disgusted at the price of the 201. The 241 is really awesome but it's not that much lighter than my 261 so having both is pretty silly.

When doing a lot of limbing I keep dreaming of a 201cem, echo 361p, or the soon to be released 2511wes

I had a good sized fork off an ornamental tree that needed to go, so it became fodder for the first cuts for the 201cem. At the base of the stem, the wood got to about 6" around, and the stem forked from the base of the tree at about 3 feet off the ground, growing out sideways to a height of about 7 feet, over a length of about 18 feet or so, sporting lots of branches along the way. So, this was basically exactly the type of task I had envisioned for the 201. This tree is soft wood so it was not a test of the saw's power, but it was certainly a good piece to demonstrate handling.

Working through a piece of wood with a well balanced saw sporting a 16" bar and weighing perhaps 10lbs, maybe a hair less, with fuel and oil is exactly as much fun as it sounds. The saw weighs practically nothing, and the weight rides in your hands such that it just takes minimal effort to deploy the saw. The work I was doing was really an exercise in limbing, and I could just flick the bar back and forth to sever each branch right at the base with minimal effort and great ease. I had all the branches off in no time, and then diced up the stem back to the base - easy. Most of the work required reaching well above my waist and away from my body. But, the 201 is so light and your hands share what little weight there is, so it is very, very well suited to that sort of work.

I'll have some more, bigger tasks in the coming weeks, but I'm expecting my opinions won't change.

That soon to be released 2511WES is now available in the UK. I think US shipping is more than a year away or so. We're about to set up a way to purchase the 2511WES(rear handles 2511T) from the UK and ship it to the US.
