Very cool. Sounds like you’ve built a few of these now. Are 056’s easy to find where you live? I rarely see one.

Yeah they come around frequently. But so does every other saw. Not too often a nice one pops up though.

Hey brother, I really like the looks of your saw and work. I am in the midst of rebuilds to an 051 and 075. I'd like to ask some questions regarding my builds in comparison to yours. Also, a friend is seeking a Bosch ignition module components for an 056 and asked if I knew anyone who might have one.

Just so I would not detract from Yota's thread, I will pm him, and if we find helpful messages regarding my saws vs his, we will add them here or I will start a thread of my own. Thanks fellas.

Member @foggysail here has a fix for 056 bosch coils. Do a search lots of information.

I had a really nice 056 about 25 yrs ago, we had a silver maple that was way too close to the back of the house. So, i'd come home from work, climb the tree, pull up the 056 and start lopping off limbs. Boy, that was a hunk of a saw!! But, got the tree down, never hit the house. Ended up selling it to my younger brother i replaced it with a 044 which i still have to this day. Another good old saw. By the way, great looking, / sounding saw.

Hey Yota, I know this is an old thread but I've got a question about your magnum. They way I understand it the magnum was a 54mm bore and the magnum II was the 56mm bore version. Is this correct and was the magnum you built in this post a 54mm bore?

I finally took some time to build myself a saw instead of for someone else. Picked this Magnum up locally over a year ago. It was a running cutting saw, just real ugly. I had plans right away to put some new parts on her and tore it down. Sadly that's as far as I got and into a box she went. Before I even bought the magnum I had been collecting NOS parts off ebay for sometime but once I got the magnum I decided to build it instead of the super I had.

I started with checking port timing and here's what I got.
(This is without the base gasket)
EX: 102
TR: 120.5
IN: 73
BD: 18.5

Pretty good numbers I think.

Next I moved on to the machine work.

Here's my Logan lathe model 210 10x24. The fine members here on AS helped me pick out this lathe.

I took .050" off the squish band and set the squish to "020

Magnums are all 56mm. Super was 54mm, regular 52mm, old 045 50mm
Ok. Thanks. I thought the first magnums were basically a super just with the dual port muffler added and that's what differentiated the original magnum from the super then the magnum II was 56mm. Thanks for the clarification.
Have a good one.
PS Super nice saw!!!!
I'm in the middle of building/bringing a 056 magnum bact to life right now. Have most of the parts gathered and complete teardown is finished. Clean, repaint and then on to reassembly!!!!
