so basically using a Dolkita is like dating a fat chick...kinda on the heavy side but cheap to date? :) waits for fireworks.....
Well, same weight as a 550 xp II. (Also kind of same power. Less on paper, and a tad more when in use I think).
It's the way it's build that makes it bulky.
I would say, compare it with a aerobics enthousiast that likes streetfood.

Paper weight is only part of it all, to me the light on paper 261 version 2 seems to weigh more than the 550. Hopefully the new 550 doesn't feel as fat in hand as the 5105 does, but even if it does as long as it handles better and has the same or more power I'll be pleased with it.

And what about the dolmar (makita) 550 ?? This saw seem to be very unpopular , why ? I think 5105 is just too implanted or ??

The dolkita 550 is a "home owners"/"ranchers" saw. Think dogs screwed in the plastics etc.
Other than that reports say it's fine.
But it is not a replacement for the 5105.
Dolkita just like stihl could do with a more clear naming scheme.

Got my Dolmar models mixed up. Dolmar 510 is the Farm/Ranch saw that has an aluminum case, more weight and detuned a little from the 5105.
The 550 is not readily available/sold in the U.S. and is certainly a magnesium case pro model.
I was thinking the same way :).
We're still living as I talk about in my signature:cheers:.

Dolmar (and Makita as well) clearly advertises this saw in the farm/semipro category. How is it possible to recognize if the case is made from aluminium or magnesium alloy?
That was kinda my line of thought. It will be interesting to learn. My bet, in that class of saw and knowing a little bit of their history, it's not mag...

I know I had read it somewhere on one of their sites, but I wasnt sure which saw it was, I was thinking it was the 510. I basically learners 5100 and 5105 were the ones to get in the 50cc class.

There are a lot of models with interchangeable parts in that family. I just learned of some more models that share parts this year. Between that and the lack of popularity a guy could get into one really inexpensively. The power they produce is still near the top in the class too.

I'm pretty good in the 50cc class right now, and you know what color I prefer :).
But there are some nice deals out there for the dolmars.
