I love AK.

Enjoy it man. I MIGHT get my wife to move to the U.P. One day. Right now we are in the L.P.

I LOVE the cold

It was in the low 60s in the house in the morning, but I had a few windows open a bit still. Was in the 80s last week, so kinda went from a hot summer to fall yesterday.

Needless to say, my phone was going non-stop today for firewood orders... like I wasn't already way too busy!

Haha! Thought it was kind of early to see this thread title, then I saw the AK location. :)

Have seen some low 50's morning temps here in upstate NY, with more coming this weekend after what I hope is the LAST hot spell of the season. Been upper 80's all week here. Probably be a while before I make a proper first fire entry though.

Had my first fire in the Garn first of Aug as I had been shut down for three months doing repairs and some rehab work. I usually run it year around for domestic water. It was 115 heat index Tue here and 75 Wed. I need to get out to the timber and start splitting some logs I have piled up now that since I didn't junk the Garn and its back running.

Well..

Actually it was a few weeks ago, had a cold morning so made a fire.

This morning was in the low 50s, so made a small fire in the shop. Has warmed up to 68 now, though will be cold again this evening I'm sure.

You must be at a high elevation and far north AK to be getting lows that low. Still in the upper 90's here in south east TX. I wont have the first indoor fire till late November.

52 degrees last nigh. Fall is coming[emoji4]

About 350-400ft or so.

Was 42* last night.

Normally have snow by Halloween.

Highs have been in the upper 60s. Nice working weather, other than all the smoke from the forest fires.

Halloween is our turning point when we get the first sign of cooler weather, not cold weather just cooler. Today it cloudy with rain cooled air so it's in the low 80's and feels quite pleasant compared to the upper 90's we normally have this time of year.
I wont be lighting the stove for some time yet.

Nah, we in western washington at 750' ASL had 42 this morning. The afternoons still get hot though so we're not needing heat in the house quite yet.

We had lows in the high 30’s to low 40’s a couple times last week. I wish we could get a frost soon to knock down the “third hatch” of mosquitoes. They are only bad right at dark but still a pain if you are outside.

No fire yet but cutting and pileing for that time when it arrives.
Hate summer with a passion so stinking hot hard to do any thing with out getting a case of creeping red rash in the groin area.

Ya I have heard all the crap about likeing summer, they live in a air condiotioned house (and ***** about the winter enegery cost.) work in a air conditioned place and drive a air conditioned car/truck.
Only out side very early in the morning and late evening.
I've even heard them say the pool is to hot to swim in.

Come on winter, bring on the snow. Kill all those blood sucking varmints. give a man a reason to wear a sweat shirt and cut & split some wood.

Love to look out across the pond and see snow and Deer.

Take pleasure in plowing snow from the driveway.

Things are definitely cooling off here in southern PA, a little early, but I'll take it! Can't stand the heat and humidity, even up here in the hills it's an issue. I can't wait for autumn. Forecast for the next few weeks (and past few days) is mid to upper 70s, lower 80s with mostly low humidity. The evenings have been dipping into the upper 50s... Loving it! Woke up at 0430 on Monday and let the dogs out, had to throw on a flannel shirt when I left for work. Burning season is upon us....

As a native Texan born and raised in south east Texas, I feel just the opposite. More people die from cold exposure then heat related issues. If you love the cold so much then why do you burn wood for heat. If the cold is so great, why have a fire at all.
People raised in the south like the heat where as people raised in the north like the cold. I could make a long list of the pro's and con's of both. There is a difference in extreme cold and extreme heat, vs. more moderate temps.
You don't get stranded in hot climates and you don't have to dig your way out and deal with snow and ice or deal with things freezing up or have to have a block heater just to get your car started just to go somewhere, given you can even get out at all.
There is probably more wild life in warmer climates, and wild life migrates south for a reason. I don't like the extreme heat but I also don't like the extreme cold ether. Having to dress in layers every day is a pain in the but. It restricts movement and your constantly having to layer and then peal layers off all the time. You also dont have to keep cold weather gear in your car in case you get stranded just to survive. Besides when your cold it can be painful to your hands, fingers and feet, not to mention frost bite.

I had my first fire in our back yard fire pit. Invited a couple guys over for a smoke of the pipe, and one guy brought some moonshine. I don't like alcohol, but I had to have a taste. I can't see why people like that stuff!

But my pipe was delightful.
Certain shine is very good. Other stuff, not so much. To me, full strength corn whiskey smells mildly like diesel, and although I haven't tasted diesel I would imagine it tastes similar.

Contents of pipe included.....? ;)
