Bought a saw from a guy off ebay.Said it had a stage 3 mod done on it .Anyone heard of this /who who would it be?
STAGE 3 mod on 395xp....anyone heard of this?

Lol yes I was thinking the same thing.
The most common terms for mods that are pretty universal are
“Ported” or not.
If it has any kind of reputable porting done to it, usually there will be a sticker to indicate such, like snellerized from brad or insane I wise from hotsaws.

Anyone heard of Dean at (WHS)?
if it was a stage 4 I would be all up in it....

Stage 1: intake
Usually in reference to air filter/cold air intake. Likely he did some grinding on the intake port.
Stage 2: exhaust
Usually in reference to cat back exhaust but can also include headers. For a saw he likely did grinding on the exhaust port and/or matched the muffler to the exhaust port, and/or dual ported the exhaust
Stage 3: cams
I doubt he make a stroker with the 2100 crank, but with a base gasket delete he could bump compression up and grind the flywheel key for advancing ignition.
BOOM! Mystery solved. We all have stage 3 saws.

It takes some doing but you can put a 2100 crank in a 395.

Stage 1. Lower and widen intake port. Match intake port to manifold opening.
Stage II. Raise and widen exhaust port. Match to muffler port.
Stage III. Stroker crank?????? How many cc with a 2100 crank in a 395xp?

It would be around 99 because it would be the same specs as a 2100 at that point, 40mm stroke by 56mm bore

Interesting .I am just trying to figure out if this will be a reliable saw.I don’t want to be running a ticking time bomb .So I’m trying to find who the builder is to determine if it’s quality work

Supposedly the builder said (coming from the previous owner) to run 40:1 plus 1/4 ounce of royal purple in the saw tank

I’d rather be the builder. Every time in the past I ended up redoing the work I paid someone to do. Not chainsaws but other stuff. Now I do all my own work. Working for a top engineering group as a lead tech on the lab floor I see things from both sides of the fence. We studied why things broke in the field besides doing r&d work and life testing. I want to know why stuff fails. Right now I don’t like the 50:1 ratio mix. Longevity to me means plenty of oil the correct oil. My older 80’s husky saws ran at about 38:1 for decades. Never a problem.
If the work is done correctly and your spot on everytime with the same oil ratio you should be ok.

Washington Hot Saws. He has health issues and quit porting saws years ago.
Is he the guy that also put ceramic bearings in some saws?
