I have a tsc 35 ton unit with the b&s engine , besides rebuilding the cylinder cause a dimwit was trying to split wood sideways....no issues at all.

That Briggs will run all day...

That's crazy, but I believe it.
B&S has the most American made small engines as far as I know.
They have been listening, something I'm trying to learn how to do :p.
People want better choices!

Hey all,
I’m looking at buying a wood splitter in the near future and am looking for suggestions. Primary use is not commercial so I’m not looking for a top of the line unit. I need it the be horizontal and vertical with the work table. I’m looking at the 25 ton range and don’t want to spend more than $1,500. The 27ton from champion looks awful tempting at $1,000. I haven’t heard anything negative about it other than those Brigs and Stratton engines quit after a few years. Does anyone have any experience with these splitters or know of a good one within that range? Thanks in advance

Hey KC, here's a good ad for you.
I've personally owned a few of these and they are built at a much better quality than the ones sold at TSC and they are made in the USA .

Not sure where the brave units are made(pretty sure USA), but they are tough units and have a great cycle time, it's common in the midwest to see them at rental stores, great cycle times too.

I agree, it's hard to find a balance isn't it.
As I've said for many yrs it's not the Chinese that are ripping us off, it's our own people, but then again many times they are just giving the people what they want.
It's easy for laws to go too far and have a similar effect, by driving up cost. That and finding people in the know make things logical, not something that just sounds good on paper.

Right it's about knowing what is what that is the biggest issue, manufacturers are still being extremely deceptive.

I'm glad we don't get much snow, I've used a few snow blowers and hated them.[emoji13]
Just buy a Chinese tractor instead lol(at least you know that's what it is going into it). I used the two stage ones here for a few yrs, then got into quads with plows and found that quicker unless it was a heavy snow(8" or more), but usually when your getting a snow event like that your out there getting it taken care of during it at least a bit, stinks waking to 12" on the ground, but that doesn't happen often even here(if we were on the lakeshore it may be different).

You know the ultimate law, him with the money makes the rules :rare2:.

Where was it made? What kind of splitter is it.

The one I currently have is the next newer version(a 2012 or newer) of that one with the handle on the front, it also has the "H" on the bottom(part the round gets pushed against) when you have it vertical like that, same engine. I have another little pile to the left of the "fluffy" white oak rounds, when I finish those two piles the splitter will get listed, then I have another pile I'll start on.
The little units are just like an ms290 or a 455 rancher, everything most firewooders need in a woodsplitter, unless you are splitting live oak .

That elm seems to split best when frozen, the problem for me is I don't split the best when frozen .

Wow, that escalated quickly.
Seems as though maybe you might not have read my whole posts in this thread.
My goal was in no way to offend anyone, but sometimes when the truth is spoken that happens, I did try to flavor it with grace/understanding I'm sorry if I did.
I was not angry when I spoke any of the above :). Gonna take a lot more than a Chinese clone motor to make me angry:lol:.
I would think that many of the guys who thought they were buying a good ole Kohler engine may be upset, but I'm not because I'm a pretty informed buyer.
So to draw people to the post who may not know is inappropriate, they get an alert and can see what was said. The truth is I've done what I can to help every person who has contacted me through PM or in the open forums as much as I can. Including all the guys who have hit me up for advice on their chippers which I thought was kinda funny in the beginning and then I figured it out , and that's when I added I am a chipper guy to my account, but that didn't seem to change anything.

Did I say I wouldn't use, touch, or buy a Chinese made product, no I didn't, for many things there aren't many options, I have one or two Chinese carbs that are oe on good quality products. Once again did you read all my posts here?
I prefer not to do instant if I don't have to, but if things don't change soon I may go that route :drinkingcoffee:.
No I won't throw out my coffee pot, maybe you should. If you'd rather not here you go ;). As I said I'm an informed buyer and I'm also patient(that word could also be translated to long suffering).

Not understanding "there are zero snow engines to choose from", really, or zero that will fit into the price the companies/customers are willing to pay for or can afford to pay for. Will Honda not sell engines for snowblowers because they make them. I thought there were Honda Engines on quite a few splitters, I've owned at least 5 myself both GX and GC and there are others in this thread.
It's simply a choice to avoid the Chinese engine market, we as well as the manufactures have a choice it's a great thing, but if people continue to choose as they have that choice will be harder and harder to make.
I buy and sell quite a few snow blowers, mainly Hondas, but some toros, too bad the toros went to Chinese motors.
Most won't pay for a Honda snow blower, but one or two pull starts sure are nice, and the 50' throwing distance is no joke :surprised3:.

Yeah, it did escalate. And I'm going to escalate it some more. And the funny thing is that we are in agreement on the basic sentiments involved.

But that's not what this thread is about. What has harmed this site over the years, and has in fact helped spawn other sites, is when the self anointed and pompous sit here and hold court lecturing other members from their imaginary high ground. You took the thread off topic to cast yourself in some political side show to try and show everyone how clever you are. It's transparency evidently escapes you, being caught up in your own self-indulgence. But we are here in this thread to talk about log splitters, not be preached to by you on an unrelated topic.

As I said before I've been here to offer help to anyone who has asked. Do I state my opinions absolutely, and you're free to as well.
I'm not sure where the lecturing/preaching happened, as far as I know I've read every view posted in this thread and I consider them all. I try to be as openminded as possible to learn where I can, even when I'm wrong.

So if you believe so strongly about the things you're stating I do, then why do you do the very things to me you're saying I'm doing to others o_O. It doesn't seem to be adding much content to the thread, but it does seem to be something you needed to get off your chest.
I'm kinda unsure if the reference to politics is in the form of things that are currently going on in politics or what, but I'm not into that scene at all. I do not and have not said that I support a particular group or leader, an ideology yes. I don't argue over politics as in all the crap going on in the government, I don't have time for that.

So did you like any of my post about the splitters, or the ones I suggested?
Personally the topic has been gone over many times, if a derail of any sort isn't expected well.
I do not place myself higher than the guys in this thread, I'd be more than happy to run saws or split wood with them even if they did have Chinese motors on their splitters, I've sold plenty of them to guys who were great guys too.

I have exact same one, except mine is all black. Same engine, B&S piece of junk, starts easy year after year, if it's warm restarts with one pull, does not burn oil, just change oil once a year. Looked for country of manufacture and found nothing on it. I know, I know, piece of crap that just will not die so I can put a Honda on it. Added a wheeled jack, kept bending that one pulling it through woods. IMG_8603.JPG

I need to put one of those jacks on my splitter, the little leg is a joke. But yeah I didn't expect the little Briggs to last as it has, starts crazy easy, and like yours it somehow doesn't burn any oil. It sure does rattle, but keeps on keepin on.

Now Bob is the heat getting to ya brother?[emoji8] I didn't see old Chipper going off the rails much in this one, just think like many of us he's tired of seeing so many things going the away of Chinese made. But I hear you some do go way off the rails, that can make us all a little grumpy some times.[emoji111]

Btw ran my 562 a bunch in 90° temps started just fine[emoji106] a little off idle bog forme time to time, but nothing I'm too worried about. Take it easy.

When it stops rattling, I will order the Honda. Been a nice splitter for the price, and fast enough for one person. Cycle time seems to be speeding up the older I get.:crazy2:

I like this design, it's the one on the swisher units. It requires that you box(or use a bushing/spacer between the rails) the rail, but so does most of the other options like the bolt on jacks if you want them to work well.
I saved this image because I like the way they work so much better than most all the other styles I've worked with and it's simple.
