Hi. I thinking of getting a small chainsaw , but second hand, to carry on my ATV, so to make trails and cut the occasional log blocking the trail...
the chainsaw won't be used often... what matters to my eyes is it has to be reliable, small and light, and durable

I don't want to spend a lot , hence the second hand, what do you think I should get plz.

thank you.

Reliable at the price range of about $100 US is problematic. You're just going to have to get lucky, as most used saws for $100 are going to be real old. If it were me, I'd look for an Echo if they are common in your parts. Your bang for the buck will be higher and the vintage could provide a saw not as old. Someone mentioned Stihl 009-011. I've had two and reliable, they were not. Because they were old when I bought them. I do realize that others like those saws; I just have not had good luck. Another thought is... around here, there are countless Stihl 250s for sale on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. Most people want too much. In fact, I don't recall seeing anybody selling one for $100. But there are so many, there is no way all those saws are selling. You could just make $100 offers to those sellers and, eventually, someone might get tired of owning it.

Now that I've written all that, methinks your budget is too low to have a reasonable expectation to find something reliable. Once again, you will have to get lucky. Double your budget and you could easily find a Stihl 026. Which, to me, would be a better choice than a 250. And if you double your budget, you could find a BRAND NEW Echo 35cc cs352 for sale. I saw two yesterday from two different sellers, brand new, in the box, and both were $175 US. That's a good deal.

Honestly.
Buy a Ms170. They are cheap but can’t be beat for a light quad saw.

I’ve had mine for over 10yrs. Still going good.

They go on sale for 259$ cad
With case,oil and chaps.

My little Echo 2511 goes everywhere I go. ..I can carry this little saw a long ways as it is light as a feather, but cuts way bigger than it is.

I started to mention that. They go on sale here once a year, it seems. Last time, it was $159 US, it was around May of this year. Saw only (with bar/chain), no extras.

Ive hauled a 440 husky in my atv box for years just for clearing fence and fallen trees in the road. It has been rolled over, thrown out, rained on......has been 100 percent reliable and they are cheap anyday at lowes with an extended warranty (which I never used, but for 20-50 dollars extra for 3 years.... why not). I see them refurbished at northern tool occasionally even cheaper. Mine has many hours on it. Starts and idles great. Never fails at -10 during winter or at 80 during summer.
It cuts just as good as any homeowner 40cc saw I've used for 200 dollars....slowly but surely. A timber saw it certainly is not.

My little Echo 2511 goes everywhere I go. I have 9 miles of fence line and hundreds of dead Ashe trees..I can carry this little saw a long ways as it is light as a feather, but cuts way bigger than it is.

I was going to mention the 2511, as well, but it's WAY over his budget. I paid $389 US (plus tax). I have one, and it's awesome, use it for trails like the OP. But it also has a small 12" bar and he needs to cut logs sometimes. Lastly, if I were going to buy a 2511, I would not buy the 2511t, I would buy the 2511wes, which is rear handle. They are in Europe now, landing any day in the UK and there is a guy on this forum who can hook you up with one for a good deal. First we heard they would come to the USA and then we heard differently. I am going to buy one from the UK. I will keep and use my 2511t when I am hiking trails; it is so light, it can hang off a belt!

The Ryobi 3714 is a decent saw and can be bought for less than 150 u.s. dollars. Its easy to work on, adjustable carburetor, and a good number of bar and chain choices for it.

Go on yer local Kijiji or craigslist and get a nice used saw.
I got a echo cs490 from $120 buck from an estate never sharpened,, they are out there,,,,
Where in canuckistan are you,,some places only got pecker poles,,,

I've had a 009 stihl never needed a part until chain wore out, stihl running on 2nd chain.........

And cheap..... and Not bad for a cheap 40cc top handle. Reed valve motor has lots of grunt.
