Jeez, in the USA, old and broken saws are a dime a dozen. Here in Australia they are as rare as hens teeth... I’m longing to find a saw that needs fixing just because I want the challenge, but I can’t find any anywhere! I have even looked for Huskys in my desperation :pingpong:

I have tried Gumtree, EBay, Facebook market, local adds, pawn brokers, local stihl dealers and garage sales and NOTHING.

I know it’s unlikely to happen as anyone on a chainsaw forum will be fixing their own saws, but if you have a stihl saw that needs fixing in Australia and haven’t gotten round to doing it, I’d love to try and do so! Let me know a price :)

It’s located in the “Chainsaw” section at the top under “Stickies”.

Have you tried your local Stihl dealer?
Odds are they will have a rack of uneconomical repair power heads they steal the odd part off of now and then and they might be talked in to selling you one to play with.
It will most likely be a low level homeowner type of saw- but hey, it will be grey and orange and fairly simple to work on and find parts for.

Yeah I sure have! They have nothing :( have my email address though and an incentive because I said i’d but the replacement parts from them haha

My local dealer said "we don't keep any old gear".
Bet they have a shipping container full of it.
I know of an ex bushman that took a ute load of old stuff to them.
Do you think they threw it away?
They are just tight a@&es.

My local Stihl dealer also has a shipping container out the back full of dead saws.

Its just like anything in life, you need to break the ice, maybe part with some beer, maybe replace the service managers spare tyre on his wife's car...something to get you in. Cheesy cold calling wanting 'free stuff' is a turn off to most folks. A carton of beer & a mobile ph no in the hands of your local tip worker could nett you more saws than you have time to fix. Before a spider eats, he puts some effort into spinning a nice big web. There are plenty of broken saws here that are financially not worth customers fixing due to out high parts/labor costs. Build the right relationships with the 'right' people & before you know it obtaining junk saws will be the last of your problems. That's about the best advice I can give.

Some great advice right there! I don’t expect them for free, I always expect to pay as in the message I wrote here first! The tip is a great idea, I should pop in there some time
soon!

Pop in when they first open and bring a small box of breakfast treats.
I know the manager “well” now as I have been in there about 10 times in the last couple months :crazy2:

He took an interest in my business and YouTube etc and I have brought everything from him from the saw, 2 in 1 sharpener, hardhat w/ ear defenders, chaps, gloves, service parts for the saw etc etc. I even said i’ll Buy the saw from them and then buy the parts from them too, but honestly I don’t imagine that are hiding a secret skip load of saws that’s for sure!

You need to find the shop that sells and works on volume chainsaws. Usually it’s where all the tree guys buy saws. Ive found shops like this to be much more likely to have broken saws laying around.
