To me a chain saw is a tool I pick up off the shelf in the garage to do some work with, nothing more, nothing less. As long as it starts easily and the chain is sharp I am happy. Knock yourself out if that's what you like.

And that’s great. If that’s your preference. The above statement I quoted was from the OP original post asking who DID run ported saws. And the other person stated it’s like asking who likes blue...then people cone in saying they like green. That’s not what the OP asked. So then comes in the green lovers who are just trying to pose opposition to what the OP actually asked and wanted. No one is attacking the green lovers, but the green lovers get out of shape when the blue lovers try to enjoy the post. Make sense?

No one is bent out of shape. I just answered the question and gave my reason for it. It would be a boring forum is people just answered with a yes, no, or number without giving any other details.

I agree randy I didn’t find anything offensive with your post, your absolutely right! Opinion and discussion is what makes a forum

Sorry maybe bent out of shape was not the correct term. I’m not the best at putting down what I’m thinking. The point was that the OP was asking something different. Then everyone came out with a bu ch of legal stuff. I wasn’t attacking anyone. Mainly saying some folks need to chill. Have fun talking about modded saws and don’t worry about every government overreach law

Some of have to worry about this because it’s how we make a living, most fires aren’t started by industrial activities it’s by the general public including firewood cutters.

It doesn't have to be Insane. Porting just opens some of the potential of the engine. a "woods port" is reasonably mild, and to me it helps some.
You asked, I have two "ported" saws.

in some sort of order:
260, stock
041, stock
440, stock
460, ported (brad S)
461, ported (Randy)
064, stock
066, stock

It's sort of like our cars and trucks. Slip a small cam, and dual exhaust in, i warms it up a little. Nothing serious. Now if'n someone was gonna race the thing... that is when all sorts of insane stuff happens to either the car or the saw. :chainsaw:

Hey just sharing my opinion, right. I haven’t had that issue where I’m from. Haven’t started a fire or anything even in a drought.

I hear you my friend. I cut about 20-30 cords of firewood a year. It started feeling like a chore with my stock ms361 so I swapped that out for a stock ms460. That made me smile for a year and then the itch started again. Fast forward another few years and I've got a few ported Stihls and Huskies. They're all a little different and they all make me smile in different sized wood.

If you ever get bored with your tools, try running a ported saw and see what happens. :)

If any fire is started on any industrial ground your equipment will be taken as evidence for full inspection. You’d have to check your state but in OR industrial lands as include private ground.

Copy, can those "inspectors" help me understand how much timing advance would cause fires and where the intake port should be for maximum fire causation . I already understand how increased compression would.

I have two un-modified saws. One's by choice, the 2171 I just haven't got to yet. The rest range from a muffler mod to a woods port. My favorite saw to run only has the muffler opened up a little.

I had two unmodified saws but lent one to my BIL, he won`t give it back. It was a near new 026 that had only two tanks of fuel through it. He had only ran and used Homelite XL`s before me lending him that saw, he just can`t believe the difference. I left my 362 stock so it can be run in among dwellings without raising cane with the residents...LOL
