Reading through your post here and realized who you are... It's nice to talk to you I'm a fan of your channel, and I refer a lot of people to your videos when they ask for information on the "clones" as it were... That being said, I am sure you don't need my advice, but to address the "wandering" idle. I built one a while back and noticed a similar problem. I swapped out the carb and the problem existed still. So I dug into it deeper and found that it truly matters how the intake boot is oriented on the cylinder and how the carb is mounted on the boot. There is enough play at both points that if it is out of place it will cause the throttle cable to be tighter than it should be.. I adjusted it with care for the orientation at both points and the problem went away. I am certainly not telling you that this is your issue, but it is a possibility and something that can be easily checked.

Long sense forgot about pride. But after the time with developing the 660's I'm not quite as willing to do the R&D anymore. :) Those little aluminum brackets for 372 have changed from when I first used them...to the point they no longer allow full throttle on OEM builds. BUT might be their answer to the wandering idle on 372 style saws if that was where you intended that to go. AND those aluminum brackets work well on the X-torq to OE conversions where you use the XT carb...Also on some of the 372 AM cylinders the intake casting itself is a bit too long and that mouses up the geometry relative to the carburetor as well. Of course a better solution is OEM throttle cable or trigger parts. Especially on the g372xp & xt. Me? I just swapped in an OEM handle on the g372xt.....all kinds of things got better. On the Stihl clones, I did find the carb to carb boot intersection issues as well and rather than fight with the parts just swapped to "used" OEM part by part from the junk pile until the saws ran well. The g366 was the worst / 361 kit as well. SO they got parked. I don't have the time. :) Some one else's turn.

I did a 361 once and had a horrible time trying to get it going. Turned out the hole to the gas tank was too small for the fuel line and was choking the supply. That was a tough one to figure out, but I drilled it a touch bigger and she ran great.

You and Matt Olsen need to converse on all things clone related..:) Go hunt him down and drag him in!

Love watching your YouTube videos. Very informative. I like learning the changes and history on the husky saws. I grab a large coffee and watch for hours. Its my time to decompress and love the different builds.

This is what irritates me, The only reason that I considered buying the 660 kit saw was watching the videos from Afleetcommand. For someone like me who likes to tinker and modify saws but will never spend the big money for an one 90cc plus saw they have a spot in the market. I’m not a professional timber guy and I have no desire to sell for a profit. I like to cut wood and play with the engines. The Hutzl saws gained on the reputation from the guys building and modding them. But what irritates me Is the dealer network that is starting. They are trying to control the Facebook posts. And it is my belief they are pushing to raise the direct prices. For $200 they are worth playing with. But dealers that are selling for 350.00 it becomes too much. I realize that the patents have ran out on these older saws so the OEMs cant do anything about them being sold. I wonder though if either the EPA or the OEMs going after the dealer network of guys here in the states for selling new saws not being compliant? I guess I just wish it would have stayed direct only. My opinion only

You basically just defined me in that opening, as the draw was about tinkering first, then "productive" tinkering ( making useful things for the farm to help the wife accept the affliction along with the growing pile of toys ) and learning then sharing. A Hobby. A LOT of fun for me. That first "puzzle" was a spoof actually because we were on vacation and the girls were building jig saw puzzles..and it kind of dawned on me a saw puzzle is the mechanical equivalent for clutch heads...which I am. That hasn't changed in the sense the kits and parts are still there, but there also is a parasite mentality that follows all creativity in any paradigm, this one as well; find a way to make a buck. Can't blame folks for trying, just I don't have to participate. Why I refuse to do any over the mail work and refuse to sell any of the saws unless its to a local friend or a trade to a local interested in the Hobby. I've given away more than I have sold. Common denominator is the person is all in on the hobby side of things. With the 660's we collectively not only created productive saws, had a lot of fun doing it. I for one learned a lot the hard way....but learned about that era of Stihl. Keep it at that level and I'm all in. I've morphed to the blended 372's and my old Jonsered. Same kind of fun, low cost...but fun and the creations are working for real on the farm. That's fun. And the remaining 660's? I still run one and the other two are like pictures or trophies...memories of a lot of. fun. When I pass I'm certain someone will pick over that stuff and be absolutely positive my priorities were totally "effed" up....:)

Just bought myself and early Christmas present in the form of a 660 PHO clone saw. Has work done to the timing, tilly carb, big bore cylinder, 3/4 wrap handle.
See how long it takes me to blow it up...or not.
If the cylinder, piston or crank go then I will replace with OEM.

Merry Christmas!! Let's see some video!

Which Big Bore? The HyWay seemed to have less freeport, but the FIRST iterations of Farmertec Ran Really well even with the little bit of freeport. Haven't looked at those in a while, curious if they have "evolved" and worth a second look. ( 56mm's ). I could "tweak" the Farmertec 54's with a Hyway popup, couple of fingerports, and a little things like trimming the cylinder base to get .020 squish...and they both ran AND lasted.. Couldn't do the compression changes to the FT 56's because dropping the cylinder exacerbated the freeport issue to the point it effected performance. Didn't try decking the HyWay 56mm's . I see Lil Red Barn sells a 54mm popup now as well. I have one in a Husqvarna 48mm OEM cylinder and it a concept worth exploring ...everywhere. :) ( Have one coming for the g372xt )

( Of course one of the reasons freeport happens on 56's is the 56mm piston with a standard length skirt won't fit in the cases at BDC as the 54's are designed to do, so either the exhaust port floor has to be a little different or freeport is likely. Machining the cases open makes a marginal sealing surface more marginal..:) )

I find them very interesting and will be purchasing a few over time. I live tinkering with things and it gives me something to do. They're cheap as can be and who knows, maybe a feller could make a few bucks off of them to fund a fun hobby.

Careful!! They can become an addiction! But can be working into really capable tools if you approach them with the right attitude & expectation level. For the right mindset, these things are a blast...

I have built and sold a bunch of them, but as far as making a ton of money..... No. It is just as you described a self-supporting hobby. The price of the pre-built ones makes it not worthwhile for someone to pay you to build them, but as you said you can have a lot of fun with them because they're so cheap to build you can afford to play with them without fear of breaking them.

I'm kinda curious if they will ever be able to make autotune clones aswell...probably not.
Can someone ask em if they'll ever start making 346xp/357xp clones aswell, would get one in a heartbeat :)

They are supposed to be coming out with a 288xp very soon and I think a 395. I haven't heard anything about a 346 but I would buy one too if the price was right.

I’d like to see some old McCulloch clones. 125’s, 10-10’s etc...

Here is my 660 clone. It's called Newtop NT9200. I bought it when I was in Shanghai earlier this year. It's made by Shanghai Newtop Machinery. I paid $235 and I am quite impressed. 19 tanks of fuel so far. Mostly milling. I have changed gas cap and bar studs. Starts every time with very few pulls. That looks very good!

Kind of sad at the same time since they obviously play by completely different rules...

I wonder how many different factories they have making these same parts, or maybe just same production line(s) adding little different pigment to some of the plastic parts?
