So here is the story, in the process of selling all our logging and farm equipment, livestock and farm in the mountains of east KY. Moving back to South Florida and planning on continuing and solely pursuing our arborist business down there. I have a ton of experience on large equipment, dozers, excavators, skidders, loaders, tractors, skid steers etc.... I admittedly know practically nothing about mini skids. Our new place is just a house and small lot as of now. I am going to have to operate out of it for a while until we can find a shop or piece of land that suits us. Plans for now are a three man crew, one ton dump, pickup/dump trailer, and a mini skid to start out. I have been really running the numbers and comparing machines as best I can online. The 322D appeals to me for the price point. I have decided I want to run a 53" "Branch Manager" grapple and have some concern about the 322Ds weight capacity and pin height.

I am willing to accept the fact that it is smaller and less than ideal than a machine of a larger size for 10K more. However I still want it to perform. My question is; Will the 322D handle the aforementioned grapple and a decent size piece of wood to make it not totally useless? Also, anyone with any real world experience with one, I would love to hear. I also am considering some 600HD 2018 models left over new stock for just a few thousand more.....

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

Buy a bigger machine. We have an sk650. It's too load is 1860 lbs. I would not want to have one smaller. You lose capacity with a bmg due to it being father out from the mounting plate.

3 days ago I bought a used 2015 vermeer 650tx. Did a ton of research on which mini to buy and every where it said stay away from boxer. Best choices will be ditch witch and vermeer. Toro and bobcat are ok I think. Also you might want to go with which ever dealers is closer to you for parts and repairs.

I have a 650tx also, (2013? or so) and it saves a ton of work. Could I use a bigger one? Yes, sometimes. It would require a larger trailer though to carry both the mini and stump grinder.

I've only used a grapple on a dingo working on a friends job and I had a hard time getting used to it. My friends crew loved it and I'm sure some more time on the machine I would have gotten better with it. I can see some advantages to the grapple especially in tight access situations. I have a Ryans equipment brush rake on mine (42") and really like it. I think it's easier to load the truck with it because you can get the load higher. With a dump trailer it probably wouldn't matter as much. I should get a block heater put on my 650. I do have problems getting it started on cold mornings (kind of like me). :cold:

Ah I see. I saw many videos on YouTube of a skilled guy using the BMG and yes it looks like it takes time to get used to which I will do. Yes I would of gotten one of those if I would have my guys use the machine since the Bmg swings a lot and the swing needs to be used for convenience. I can see my guys knocking down things with the swing lol but not me. I hope. My 650 came with a block heater. 1300 hours payed 15k cash. Hope I didnt overpay.

Hey my 650tx uncurls down very slow when I'm also raising the bucket. Does yours do that as well or is it something I have to check? When I'm lowering the bucket and uncurling it does it fine. It's just raising and uncurling. Any help here? Thanks!
