I use full syntetic with ethanol free gas (always ethanol free) when I am not sure how long it will sit in the tank. When I know I will use it within a month or so, I would just take any known brand.
Interesting that most of you use more "to be on the safe side". But every modern saw has 1:50 in the manual. And using more oil makes it run a tad leaner, not richer.

Modern manuals list 50:1 most likely for an EPA thing, doesn't mean it's best.

More oil is fine as far as mixture as long as you adjust the carb for it.

RedBull660/ RedBull661 did a crap ton of research on this. You should be able to search for that thread. I read most/all of it, and since then have been using this:

I mix it 40:1 with ethanol free gas and add some Strartron as well.

FWIW, the Stihl platinum oil was one of the worst tested in terms of buildup. I used the supply I bought to extend my saw warranty and then moved on.

Why in the world do people keep bringing up alcohol free gasoline. Alcohol removes any moisture from the fuel making sure carburetors are always dry. A reasonable amount of oil that is of reasonable quality will run a reasonable amount of time. A saw that is used heavy will not wear our for hundreds of hours of use. Brands of oil differ slightly such as the color of ones T shirt that day. Thanks

ethanol also swells rubber components not designed to accommodate the use , regular pump gas also deteriorates fast , ethanol also will not blend correctly with some 2 stroke oils, MOST fuel stations carry blue pump handle , at the same cost as premium. better question: why would you NOT use ethanol free fuel , in small equipment of all types ? ...;)

a while back I used up the last of my Husq XP that I had stock piled, bought & started using XP+. I mix it at 45:1 with Shell 93 oct just like the old XP and so far so good. Only differences I've noticed are the "sweet" smell & its a lighter blue color when mixed. Between cutting sunday & mostly noodling yesterday I used about 2 gallons of fuel in the 650

If blue pump handle fuel is ethanol free, then that is hugely area dependent. Almost all fuel stations around here definitely do NOT carry ethanol free fuel. My closest station is half an hour away and the cost is 70% higher.

That's way more stations than the last time I checked! But definitely not "most" stations.

I need to check again, there may be another closer station that has non-E fuel now.

I run motul 800 in my saws. Used it for years in dirt bikes at 32/1 was running 32/1 in my saws for quite a while I noticed the fume is quite strong and a few on here said drop to 40 well it seems spot on. Smoke is gone when hot smell is nice but not over powering and also notice less wet goo in the exhaust.

My mate was cutting with me a couple days ago and he runs stihl oil. Ewwwww yuck that stuff smells feral its nasty

At what ratio was he mixing though?
If mixed 50:1 as per the instructions on the bottle, most oils are burned fully and the crankcase lubricated sufficiently in a modern saw, not thrown out the exhaust ports in a pungent cloud.
Only asking because I use Stihl oils and do not find the exhaust fumes obnoxious.

50:1 certainly wasn't noxious but but does not smell pleasant like motul. It was probably 3 months old mix too which may or may not have in influence.

I had some valvoline synthetic I got cheap at mitre10 thought I'd give it ago and yeah eww yuck too was happy when that ran out.

I cut for fun mostly and sell a heap of wood and to me the pleasures of cutting include nice 2 stroke smell

Might be a bit like being in a Mai Mai first weekend of May? Your 12 gauge isnt noisy- but your mates beside you hurts your ears?
See if you used real saws, the smoke would be thinner and the chips flying faster- so the scent of fresh cut Macrocarpa and Gum would overpower the offensive 2 stroke cloud! :ices_rofl:

Haha yeah you're probably right too he certainly didn't mind.

Lol I was waiting for that hahaha a pic just for you Bob 20200216_120858.jpg
Tell ya though that old 10-10 has a 57cc S engine and my mates 311 can not beat it big or small wood at all they are very similar speed. The mac weighs the same but its metal and 40 years older. Yes he has anti vibe and a brake but still it goes very well it's my limber. The 350 is forsale

For sale to help cover the purchase price of the latest lemon brick?
Is that 7-10 ex NZFS? Must be getting some hours on the clock of that one.

Dead right I have others I could but that seems easier to let go of. Although it rips though will be a little sad.

Well spotted it certainly is indeed. It came from the north island. Still has great compression infact it's my best 7-10. It has a fixed hi jet carb and feel that is how it's still in such good nick engine wise.

I go with the manufacturers suggested oil brand. Husky XP+ oil for husky saws. Again at 38:1 mix. I use in husky and Stihl.

But in anything with a castiron or steel sleeve cylinder it’s maximum 927 synthetic Castor blend.

There’s a few scored cylinders on you tube with farmtech saws. The wrong ratio mix was used. Some of there saws require 25:1 ration. Try 40:1 and higher they seeze.

I been using Mobil delvac 15/40wt oil in all my tractors. I contacted Mobil engineering over the label being changed from heavy duty gas and diesel application to diesel apps no mention of gas engines. That’s another post.
Here is a 20 minute run time 372 huztl. What oil ratio or brandIMG_8791.JPG IMG_8792.JPG do you run if new AM saw has an air leak?
