Hello all,
I am about to finish up cleaning up and adding needed parts to my Chainsaw after years of no use! I ordered a Husqvarna 16" chain and 16" bar from Amazon! Well got them today and found out my OEM parts that came with it in 2007 (model). are 18" bar and chain!

I here a smaller bar and chain would be better which I have no clue!

Any recommendations on keeping what I ordered or getting an 10" like the original, funny this is all of the 142's seem to have the 16" but mine came with 18"!

Thanks for the quick response, I’m gonna love this site!

May question is also what bar is better the,

3/8-Inch- by .043-Inch

Or

3/8-Inch- by .050-Inch

the chain

Husqvarna chainsaw chain 16-Inch .043 gauge 3/8 pitch low kickback low-vibration

or

Husqvarna chainsaw chain 16-Inch .050 gauge 3/8 pitch low kickback low-vibration

I have no clue on the numbers

Thanks

Send it back if you have a free return policy.

In theory the .043 should cut just a tiny bit quicker. In reality the difference is probably not noticeable.

As I mentioned you can get replacement chain anywhere if you have .050. Most places don’t stock .043. In fact the only .043 I’ve ever seen sold locally was Stihl and they only sell it in premade loops that are a different driver link count than what you need.

I agree with svk on the gauge issue. The only 043 chains I have ever made and sold were for Stihl saws. I think this may be a special Husky size suited for folks who run both Husky and Stihl saws. They can keep one roll of bulk chain on the shelf and use it for both brands. I, too, believe the .050 chain is a bit more rugged. But if you don't do a lot of cutting it would work fine...just might be a bit difficult to get replacement chain except for where you got this particular set-up from.

Better for who? The shorter bar may a bit snappier because of less rotating mass. Some may find a shorter bar balances better. The longer bar will have more reach.

What is wrong with your old bar?

Looks like the equivalent Oregon 16" .050 combo is Oregon 27857.

The old bar which came with the saw is 18" and chain 18"!

The old bar may still be good and the chain as well, I just don't know what to look for if it indeed needs replacing! I did buy a chain sharpening kit!

I'll take a pic of the old bar and chain to show you tomorrow !

Thanks

Thanks for the responses!

so for my saw a 16” bar and chain is good enough vs the 18”!
Unless you are routinely running the saw with bar buried in hardwood, either 16 or 18 inch is just fine. (If you find yourself with bar buried routinely you really need a bigger saw.)

Let's see that 18 inch bar and chain.

Your existing bar is probably fine.

That chain with the bumper tie straps is one of the least desirable chains out there and to top it off, it’s dull and has significant leading edge damage. I’d recommend a new loop of Oregon VXL or similar.

Return that .043 bar and chain or you’ll be stuck buying special order (expensive) chain.

so your saying to old 18” bar are good and the old 18” chain is bad!

because the new bar and chain are only 16”, send them both back!
