Magnum i think was primarily a later model with intella carb and a choked down muffler to pass newer emissions.
I think a few other little differences.
I don't know if the ms660 magnum is any different then 066 magnum.

Wow very little responses from what used to be one of the most important questions in the history of Stihl chainsaws. I had planned to write a whole book about the legendary "66" but never got around to it. I thought originally in the mid 90's magnum had the stock dual port muffler and was rated higher HP, later on the sticker meant nothing since all those pro saws had the sticker. I'll try and find my notes from previous guys like Jacob J, Lakeside, Windthrown and others. I can take some pics of my "66" collection, much slimmed down over the years though.

In terms of parts, Def Dave had a good list here:

How about this Magnum from probably the mid 90's dang the serial number starts with 19 No decomp dual port muffler baddest dogs you'll ever see East or West of the Mississippi

Hey I noticed you’re is the red light model, I have only just learnt about them. Would you have a preference with or without one generally?

None of mine are, they just have the plastic spot to punch out for it. I would like to have one for the collection some day, but my understanding though i never ran one is that the limiter would slowly decay down the max rpms so people would bypass the red light anyway with a newer coil anyway, and one side of the crank and the bearing was thinner so Stihl beefed it up after they got the field data.

Pay attention boys...now we have a decomp valve non-metal badge magnum but still flat top 066, now has the poly flywheel but still the bigger hole in muffer , this one in mid 90's, i think previous ones were earlier 90s

Here's a little information on 066/ms660 saw's for ya Tom so you don't end up buying a turd down the road.
Here in Australia our ms660 where true magnum saw's right to the end of there run and the ms661 took over.

This is a true Aussie ms660 7.1 or .2 hp the ms661 is 7.3 hp.
This ms660 was one of the last here in AU you could buy before the ms661 replaced them on the shelf.

Now this is a USA EPA ms660 down on power made to meet EPA regs in the USA. Lots were imported into AU privately and solid as true Aussie ms660 magnum saw's and sold for like 2k on eBay for a nice little profit.
It's easy to see why they were so impressed with the ms661 over there compering it to this down on power turd of a saw.
Easy to spot a fake import just going off the muffler as you can see in these pics.
I don't think thay ever had a true magnum ms660? the 066 is the last true mag saw they had when talking 066/ms660 magnum saw's.
If you see one for sale smile inform them you know what it really is and thank them for wasting your time and walk.

Thanks heaps for that info, super clear!!

oh man that 660 is GORGEOUS!! Making me so jealous and envious, two terrible emotions to have bahah. Any interest in selling a beauty 660, looks like you have enough to not notice one missing haha

Any idea what the difference is between the US variant of the 660 versus the 660 sold in Australia?
Difference between the two? Yeah we got the real deal lol
But yeah port timing carb jetting and muffler is a few. I even think chain catcher is different?...
I don't think any American has ever been impressed with there EPA ms660 they call em turds stock and that's even in there soft hardwoods..

Port timing, really?
Ya got me there as I've never owned a EPA ms660 only going off what I've read on the internet's over the years regards to the port timing.
Have you run an Aussie ms660 next to a ms661? Only then the ms661 is not so impressive with it's light clutch in Aussie hardwoods the 661 is just a 660 with reliability issues and a tendency of bogging and clutch slipping at the drop of a hat thanks to the light clutch.
I best add all just my 2c on this.

It was a marketing decoration, not dependent on any particular setup. Anything that could be done to a 1122 in a particular region could be done to any 1122 within the structural changes of the production run. The same for the 1128, 1124 series saws that carried the magnum sticker. The word Magnum is not part of the model badge as it was previously with the older series such as the 1115 and 1119 on which the words were part of the badge and implied different displacements.

The Super applied to the 1127 series came with a wee tiny larger piston, the word Super is part of the model badge, similar to the 1118 and 1119.

The Pro sticker applied to the 1125 series came with the same size piston and cylinder as the equivalent non pro. The word Pro is not part of the model badge.

The changes that were made during the production run of the 1122 series were not dependant on the application of a sticker. The stickers used to be fairly inexpensive, not sure anymore. Probably supposed to call them Magnum decals, not stickers, stickers are for kids, decals are for older kids.

A Hawaiian shirt for your Stihl, without the mustache.
