So I am in need of a 261 muffler and see that the 291 has the same flange gasket. My question is will the 291 muffler will fit on my 261. Hard to tell from pics but looks the same without the ears for the bottom. Since its so hard to get mufflers for the 261 unless you buy a new one from the dealer I thought this might be a good work around since 271/291 mufflers seem to be plentiful. Anyone have both they can swap and try out?

Thanks for the pic is that the original backplate? Also they have the same muffler gasket is that still attached to the cylinder.

It might end up sticking out too far. I wanted to do this but for some reason it didn’t work. It’s a vague answer but I’ll swap mufflers if I can find a 291 muffler here. I’m pretty sure the muffler was a good bit bigger.

I know its a diff part number. However the part that is the same supposedly is the gasket between the muffler and cylinder... So I was just wondering if it was the same with the ears removed from the bottom since they couldn't screw it into the plastic case of the 291.

Thanks, I just don't have any 291/271 parts here I can do it with.
