Can he make a compression test with the plug removed? Anyone know? I recall doing this on a 661C, but the 362 CM-tronic might disable that also. Stihl seems to be doing about all it can to get these saws back to its dealer's shops.

The new coil and plug showed up today. Unfortunately they’re the wrong ones. I’m guessing newer 362CM saws use the smaller spark plug so what I received was the smaller plug and a pre wired coil that only fits the smaller plug.
You need a older version with the larger plug and plug connection. 1140 400 4709 would be the control unit that you need.

How else would you do a compression test? I’ve never done it with the plug installed.

Could be that the M-tronic system might make the results of the compression test meaningless the same way that it disengages the spark with the plug removed. Anything is posssible these days. Dang, Goofy, I hate to give Stihl engineers anymore ideas. ;)

DND 9000, where do you get your info from? Are you a Stihl employee?
You know a little too much about the inside workings of their product.
Or are you a dealer.

I ran into that with a 661 about five years ago. Exact same problem -- bad coil that would deliver no spark or failed under load, even if the engine started and ran after numerous attempts. New coil fixed it, but he never told me whether that was replaced by the dealer for no cost. Stihl M-tronic coils are not cheap.
