I think he uses opti oil. The deale rtold him as the diapharms age they can make the saw run lean. So he bought a new ms 661 non m tronic. I got the old one i couldnt just leave the saw. If you can, I would start with a high quality degreaser and apparently magic erasers work well.
If that doesn't work, sand it with like a 600 grit, then 1200, mask it off and put some clear coat on it. I used rust-oleum clear gloss after sanding the orange covers. Doesn't look perfect but 100% better then it was.

Looking at that picture I bet you will have to use sandpaper, or at least some 0000 steel wool.

Opening it up and cleaning thinking of doing the acid trick on the cylinder

How should I get the aluminum transfer off the cylinder ?

How should I get the aluminum transfer off the cylinder ?
I use acid all the time.

Just apply with a Qtip and be careful. Also, have a bucket full of baking soda solution next to you to neutralize the acid.

If you see a small area that keeps fizzing, there is likely a compromised area of plating there. The acid will get under it and undermine the plating, essentially ruining the jug. Same can happen by the port edges. This is what people worry about.

I have found that sanding alone can sometime ”polish” the transfer on the wall and make it nearly invisible. A bit of acid will take it right off.

YMMV

I decided to sand the aluminum transfer by hand. I saw how some use power tools don't have those. Figured hands were the next best thing used 150 for starting. On 220 now will go to attest 400 or 600. I also sanded the intake and transfer ports smoother
