Hi Remington Fans
I have a couple 990’s that need to come apart. I have an IPL But am stumped at the clutch. The nut that holds it on? is RHT I don’t see a key way on the IPL or key listed.
So has anyone taken one off recently and remember if it is threaded and which direction ?
I tried both directions and a puller . So before I start seriously exerting force I want to know for sure which way it needs to be exerted.
Thanks

My 990 is left hand thread. I locked the flywheel through the bottom access hole, 2 pin punches in the clutch and small bar turning the punches. Alternatively, Carl has clamped those 2 punches in a vise and turned the whole saw. Or, get a proper pin spanner to fit.

Those clutches like to fight ! I bought a cheap spanner from Amazon and it worked well.

Not that they grow on trees, but I used a Pro 88 piston in my 990. One of piston ring pins was gone and I was unable to come up with a repair. The Pro 88 is the same bore and stroke, rod and all fit. The piston has 2 ports in the skirt that match Pro 88 cylinder ports. They do nothing on the 990.

Hello, been a while since I've posted on here. I am looking for the part number for a Remington Super 880G piston, or an IPL for the 880G. Thanks!

One is locked on its own.
Hoping to salvage the piston from it once its free. I figured I would get the clutch loose on it,it had resisted so far. Now I know which direction I can get serious

I salvaged a piston for my 990. Ring locator pin had come out. A bit of 1/16” drill rod and held in place with a #4-40 screw.

What I really need is a serviceable cylinder as this one has the plate peeling around the exhaust port.

Happysaws is looking for a Super 880 ipl. I am missing the Super 880 and Super 880G ipls.

My piston extraction tools
First was a fitting made from a spark plug and a grease gun i used diesel to preasure up the cylinder till it moved the first 1/8th inch and the top ring cleared the exhaust port and wouldn't hold diesel.I went with diesel figuring any that made it past the rings would help lubricate the extraction. I had also used wax on the bottom of the piston.
Then i found a plastic handled chissle that fit the con rod when the rod bolts were tighteened. Used a couple ujoint caps with bolts through a plate with drilled holes.
then just kept it warm and tightened bolts till it would pop about 1/8"at a time Had to add blocks to get it all the way out.990a.jpg990f.jpg990d.jpg

Looking for a definitive seal match for a John Deere Model 17 / PL4 -- #65194. Same size for both sides and I presume the same size as one or the other from an SXL. I've read there's an SKF that works but don't have a number. Also curious about a definitive aftermarket piston replacement that'll fit w/o issues. I'm seeing reference to aftermarket SXL piston kits as a drop-in fit, but there were originally two sizes. Pretty sure this application calls for the 1 13/16" / 1.8125mm version according to the measurements I've come up with. Carl kindly offered up an OEM 64302 piston and pin when I started this project back in May that I believe was 1.8125 also, but I'd need to source rings and clips so may as well go with an aftermarket kit (unless I could find an OEM Homelite) so he can save his for something else down the road. Just wanting to be certain that I cross the right OEM dimension to the correct AM (or Homelite) piston and the right seals.

TIA for any assistance / enlightenment.
