I read on an old post from 2012 that someone had inquired about a clutch or whether or not to replace thier clutch and someone had replied that stihl clutches are lifetime warranty.... Is that true? Also when I go to cut with my ms460 (not pressing down hard on it) it half cuts and half slips. Do I need to replace or can there be some other things to look for like the Grease like oil/wood mixture from cutting. Maybe it has found its way in between drum and clutch perhaps? Thanks

Nothing on a Stihl is lifetime warranty.

Pull it apart and clean it. It's a normal maintenance item. Just an e clip to remove.
Clutch bearing should be greased every so often too.

I've had drums wear thin to the point they cracked or sections broke off, saw still pulled a 24" bar fine.
The shoes have a wear line on them as well.

look at where the chain rides on the sprocket and the chain drive links for rounding also look at the inside of the clutch hub for wear. can u post pictures of the clutch faces, inside of the clutch drum, sprocket and chain drive links?

Hello cookie, thanks for the reply, I just put a brand new sprocket on the saw so it is fine. The half moon clip and sprocket were robbed off of it before they gave me the saw so I had to get all that new, it was sorta dumb of me not to go on and check the clutch but I was thinking that I'd never had to replace one so I didnt.. but I'd say the drum maintenance idea is gonna be a great place to start, also thanks to choppy for this info cause I didn't know about the wear marks ect. Learning alot here so far

Also I was wondering if running the saw without a bar and chain and also reving it up would hurt it any? Cause before I purchased a bar and put it on, I kept starting it up and reving it up a little out of excitement and anticipation to run it. I also wanted to see how the engine was gonna do cause I never heard it run before I did all the work and replaced all those parts so I wanted to see if my investments in the parts were a good thing or a bust. Down deep I knew it would run though or I wouldn't have bought all the parts to get it back in order. (The clutch and sprocket and half moon clip were in place when I did run it.)
