I've seen some cool and unique saws on AS I'd never heard of before and wondered how many more are out there. The two that come to mind are the Sachs Dolmar KMS4 rotary powered saw and the McCulloch BP-1 balance piston. So what other saws belong on the list and what makes them cool/unique?

It's a tie between the BP-1 and the KMS4 in my book. I have seen and run both and they are in a cool level way above anything else.

My Vote for Coolest saw ever built would have to go to the 1st portable gas powered chainsaw the 1927 Dolmar model A

Cool!!

Hey Belgian that is one cool old Stihl! I want one!Oh well I want one of everything.:greenchainsaw:

I don't know about the coolest ever made, but the coolest one I have is my McCulloch PM 700. It reminds me of the of the early 70's dirtbikes. It sounds like an old Maico or CZ or Bultaco.
There was a guy cutting near me one day and his saw sounded really nice, and I went to see what he was runnen and he had a bigger Homelite. This saw was well used with alot of paint gone. But boy did that thing crack open. Love the sound of old 2 stokes.

My vote is a Disson Mercury DA-211.

Second place is a McCulloch 660 gear drive...why?

It just is a expectation crusher...when I first got mine to a running spec and went out to the woods to try it...I had an expectation set by my other gear drives and saws of that era...and then I fired it up and stuck it in a LARGE Hard maple log and it just went WAAAAAAAAAAAAA! :jawdrop: chips and stuff flying everywhere!!! I was just blown away at what that thing could do and its sound was unique...a much higher RPM and much more intense two stroke sound than I expected from that old beater...kind of like the racing 125's of that era.
