Hi,

My 262 xp leak by fuel cap. Someone said that vent is blocked, but i don't found vent on my fuel tank. I read on other thread that husky sell new cap for certain chainsaw model, is it also for 262 XP

Thanks for your help

Check your O-Ring on the cap.

Take it off the cap and clean it, check for cracks, replace it.
If Husky don't have one, Take the O-ring to a auto parts store and have them match it up.

I've already remplace it, but in vain always leak. I've found breather on fuel tank, how to remove it ????

Thanks

Are you getting fuel out of there?

Use small fish hook,Cut the hook so you just have barbed area Push the point into the filter with forsceps and pull the filter out.
Then unscrew the breather out.

I dont reccomend this unless you are getting fuel out of the breather.

A metal screw is nice to remove the air vent. But after removal, the center piece is mostly done.Usually though, this vent type always drip a bit by pressure created inside the tank.

Manual, no fuel get out there. no compressed air also

Which way are you blowing the air?
Go from out side in. the vent is there so the tank does not cavitate.
No fuel fuel coming out sounds good.
Go back to your cap, check the surface where the o-rings sets.
you could be losing fuel because of paint chipping off, take some sand paper and sand the surface off.
Also check you fuel line for cracks.
also pull the fuel line out just a bit to make it move. that way you just made a new seat with the line to tank.
If you have not changed the line in a couple years. Go ahead and do so.
the new pig tail looking lines work. my as well change the filter at the same time.

Manual,

Fuel leak from caps, i see it. My idea is that pressure come too high in the tanks and o-ring don't resist to that pressure. I will check for paint chipping but all is in plastic !

Thanks

Also pressure fuel tank by carburator fuel line and compressed air leak by fuel tank plug. No compressed air come out from vent

thanks

Hah, Sorry I was thinking to hard.
I'm looking at a 262 I just painted. that would be the oil cap.
your right gas cap screws into plastic. (dah)
still the o-ring is the seal, You could have a scratch that the o-ring is not getting a good.
I will measure the ring in the morning and pressure test my tank and see what happens.

Good morning,
Here I am pressure testing a 262 gas tank.
As you can see I do not get more then 2psi 0f pressure and the tank vent is weeping air. Use dish soap and water on vent.

Now I have pluged off the tank vent and pressure tested the tank again checking for leaks at the fuel line.
Yes the line needs to be replaced. I was able to get just over 2psi (3)

Replaced the fuel line and no leaks. (Those little bubbles are from spraying soap and water around the new line)

OK, Now you have tried everything, cleaned fuel cap, changed o-ring, Cussed up a storm, Started a thread on A.S. and your cap is still leaking Fuel.

Heres a Tip form the Mind of Manual. :)

Get yourself some teflon thread seal tape.
Roll out about 12" or so, Fold the tape leangh ways in half, And then fold in half again.
Remove the O-ring and wrap the tape inside the grove of the cap. Reinstall the O-ring.

Take a look here 6psi and holding.

Use larger o-ring

I had this same problem. I replaced the vent tube and got a slightly larger O-ring for the fuel cap. Works great now. The factory O-ring is just too small to get a good seal in my experience.

Yeah a larger O'ring would do the trick. I have a whole kit with over sized orings However to much over sized. so I was sitiing at home thinking what else I could do. before I drove 30 miles to the nearest store to get one.

Good works Manual,

I have rebuild my 262 xp for hard work this week-end but next time i will check with dish soap on vent. That's the last solution !!!

262xp fuel leak

I have a similar problem on my 262 ,the line is saturated with fuel and has become spongy, when I'm in the wood pulling hard, it acts like it is running out of fuel, let off the throttle and it will start pulling again.I've cleaned the carb, checked the tank vent and I think a new line and filter will fix me up.My problem is a replacement line. The parts guy at my local dealer had to order it and it has been two weeks already, I thought surely it would interchange with the 372? and or other saw of this type, best of my memory it is not a "fitted" line but is of a specific diameter. I don't want to use tygon because of leak issues in the past.Any help?
