Its' a 24" hard nose with the numbers 97 on its side then 0391, then below that, 3003 000 5531 , it also has a picture of the bar rails with 1.3 beside it.My question is,,, is it a .50 or .63 gauge? I tried to install a .63 but it is too tight, a .50 fits but is a little sloppy, could be a little worn, I can fix it if it is but didn't want to close up the rails if it is supposed to be .63..

A Duromatic bar is universal as far as pitch goes...

True, but Stihl only make 1.3mm gauge chain in 3/8Picco or 1/4, therefore a 24 inch Stihl 1.3mm gauge bar must be Picco regardless of there being the ability to use 1/4 as Stihl don't make a rim sprocket to run 1/4 on a mid to large sized pro saw.

You can use 1.3mm gauge 1/4, .325, Picco3/8 or 3/8 with the correct spur/rim drive from another manufacturer though.

I have a carbide Stihl chain 25" long in 3/8 pitch (not picco) in .050 gauge.
It goes on a Rollomatic ES 25" bar with a 3/8 sprocket. I also have a regular Stihl yellow link chain of same pitch. I think you can use any 050 gauge chain on an 050 sprocketless bar, except if it is a dime-size tip carving bar, which takes a 1/4 pitch chain (i learned that one today from a wood carver, thanks troutfisher) Just gotta make sure the drive sprock matches the chain or else it is a mess and a short chain life.

stihl makes just about all of their chains in a .050 gauge chain noted by the second number of the part number 33RSC-84 a .063 would be 36RSC-84

3=3/8 pitch
3=.050 gauge
R= Rapid
S= Super
C= Comfort
-
84= Drive links for 25in bar

Yes, but everyone knows that - why post it on here - :jawdrop:

Thanks to all, and no Mr. TROLL I did'nt know the code.I have extended the life of old bars by inserting a piece of shim stock into the bar groove and peen it back together, I learned that from an actual chainsaw service manual published by John Deere.Again thanks to all, including Troll...

Well that is not is not true. The bar asked about is 3003-000-5531. It is a 12mm mount bar for the 026 through 066. Those saws do not use picco (3/8LP) chain. As noted by many others all the 33 series chain fit the bar. The picco you mention goes on the small mount bars for the small saws.

Stihl Chains, Bars, Accessories Catalogue 2006-08 only mentions once to the 3003-000-5531 Bar and it is in the 066/MS660 section.
