Initial start-up and checking idle and L jetting.

H was running a little rough. I fattened it up for the start-up because I knew I wouldn't be able to resist some WOT runs and quick blips. I'll tune tomorrow as I'm out of time for today.

THE IDLE SOUNDS LIKE THE PEDREGON FUNNY CARS AT STAGING

It felt crazy tocayo!!!!!!!!!

It sounded even crazier. I can't wait to tune it tomorrow. It was falling flat in the vid at WOT and skipping some on the notes, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to toast it:D

It's a porting infestation Ritch, bust out that vid bro!

Thank you Mark.

Yes, the idle was high initially as I set it like that to make sure the saw will turn on. I'm getting better, as this time it was set at 2780-3078.

Towards the end of the vid when I use the sd, you can hear the idle drop just a tad. 2700-2800 was the final reading.

I'm off for a hike. Will shoot for this afternoon for the vid. Sorry BOTI, I only have that eucalyptus to cut:cheers:

ps...how much is a 28" bar and chain?

I'm bummed out as I forgot to set idle. It was low in the videos. I was just too dang excited to be running the saw! It runs better when the idle is set correctly, or at least that is the experience I have. With that said, let the show begin:clap:

Playing with the H setting, as all three videos had different H settings and different noticeable strengths.

All saw in this cut. It felt strong. By then, the chain was giving up but who cares!!! Throttle felt lazer like and pulled awesome throughout the cut.

Next project for this saw...pop-up.

Sounds really great. Notice how she holds the rpm in the cut. With some fresh green wood and a sharp chain, I believe you will be truly amazed. You did a great job and I hope your proud of your efforts. Now, when you going to spin up a pop up piston for her?

Best wishes,
Bob

she does sound good. I agree on the green wood. you'll be amazed at how much faster she'll be with green wood. Cool beans bro. i'm tunning as we speak. lol

Thank you Bob. I especially like the second video on the first cut when the contraption is pulled my way and I stopped it and pushed it back with my left knee. At that point, you can really hear it dig in and it buzzed gnarly. Too bad I had to pull up on the saw thereafter as it was going to hit the craftsman table.

This build was just as much fun as the 5100, but in a different platform. I really enjoyed making these videos today too. Picking fruit from a tree is a worthwhile wait. Awesome feeling amigo.

A pop-up is the next modification for this saw for sure:cheers:

Just a post up.

I was worried about the squish I chose, but so far so good. I read some threads on the net concerning radical squish numbers. The worry came with the expansion of the piston.

I double checked my squish and it's set @ .015

I don't mind sharing this vital info for you DIY fellas that want to learn. Pro's, watch out:greenchainsaw:

I also had to re-tighten the bolts holding down the jug.

It was planned Tocayo. I've read as low as .014 and I'm sure someone was even crazier to go further down into the depths of power...

I used printing paper and coated it with a Permatex copper in aerosol form.

Can't wait for your vid Ritch:clap:

Yeah, a video infestation...

.014, WoW, I was scarred cause mine was at .018 lol. Wondered why your's had such an agressive idle. Did you loctite your head bolts? I made the mistake of not one time and never again, I loctite everything now.

Yeah, my initial squish measurement without the gasket was off. Too excited:spam:

.014 on a 260 or 026 I can't remember where I read it.

The idle in yesterday's vids was not set. It was idling at 2300-24500. In my past experiences, when the idle is set that low, it's not as aggressive as when it set at 2700 or so. Aggressive throughout the curve. I don't know why it helps in that, but I have noticed that.

And yes, the idle is funny car like. Wiggles knows what I'm talkn bout. If you ever watch an NHRA event, check out closely when the incar camera is on insdie the funny car at staging:jawdrop: Notice the fast and furious snaps those pistons are creating.

That kind of squish is likely too tight without ceramic coating. Hitting the piston on the head is not your only concern. Watch to make sure you don't start eroding the piston away.

BTW, I never use LockTite on cylinder bolts. I've never had a bolt come loose(knock on wood:)). Stihl bolts are serrated on the bottom side as well.

Your idle speed in no way can affect the performance of the saw in the cut. It's not possible.
