Hello all, I have an opportunity to pick up a Solo 647 at a little over $100... My first instict is to jump on it, but I want to know what I'm getting into. First of all, is it a pro saw? Magnesium case? Good/Bad reputation? I'm always looking for something I haven't tried, but I want some imput from the pros here before jumping on this...
Thanks in advance...

It's basically the same as the 654, correct? If so, I would'nt take one if someone paid me. Worst saw Solo ever built in my opinion.

I walked away from one for $60. FWIW, I think that for $100 there are better fixer-uppers available out there.

Thanks for the great comments, I love this site.... I'll leave this saw for someone else... Thanks again everyone.

Also..."the word is"... that Solo is leaving the USA..!!!

They have a parts base that some things can be come by in coastal Virginia.

Just sayin'...parts could be a BIG problem..!!

The ignitions are terribly unreliable. Coils will give out at any time for no reason.:msp_mad:

Well I wish I would have seen this post before Saturday. I just picked up a 647 for $50. Compression is great, figured I couldn't lose for that price. I guess we'll see.

I had a 654 which is the same saw only bigger bore. Good little saws if you can keep it running. Aftermarket coils are available, but they're like $50.

Are the coils a prob only on the 647/654 saws? I have had a 636 for 15 - 20 years and a fantastic saw. Never a prob. Sold my other so called "good" saws like stihl and husky and kept this. will def get another Solo.
