Im thinking its black oak but what ya think?? Never cut black before!

Looks like red oak to me also. Really want a solid ID, get us a leaf picture. Or maybe they are not out yet.
 
Ill be out splitting it today and ill post more pics no leafs yet this was an uprooted tree i agree its an oak just dont think its a red keep ya posted in a an hr or two with more!
 
Heres a few pics 1st ine is only leafs in tree i could find and 2nd is grain this is still much darker then any red ive cut b4

Northern Red Oak

From the split pic looks like the tree was developing what we call core rot. (Don't know the scientific name) Around here it's very prevalent in red oaks once they reach 20 to 24 inch diameter.
