Ive cut plenty if red oak on this farm and none has every been this dark inside

Last time I went against tom trees I was wrong. Still, I don't think this is red oak. Got any closer pics? Split a piece and show us the grain.

Looks like red oak to me also. Really want a solid ID, get us a leaf picture. Or maybe they are not out yet.

Ill be out splitting it today and ill post more pics no leafs yet this was an uprooted tree i agree its an oak just dont think its a red keep ya posted in a an hr or two with more!

Northern Red Oak

From the split pic looks like the tree was developing what we call core rot. (Don't know the scientific name) Around here it's very prevalent in red oaks once they reach 20 to 24 inch diameter.
