Well I bought a 550xp from Mesupra. I have been using a muffler modded Dolmar 420 and have decided to move up a little and try a 50cc auto tune saw.

I am anxious to give it a try to see how it compares to the Dolmar 420. Hoping to have some more power in the red oak up to 14" or so. We will see soon what the Husky will really do.

I've always liked the idea of a 420 but a friend was telling me that the 550XP doesn't weigh any more and has a lot more power.

Is that your opinion?

I've had a 550 XP a couple years.

I have a 421 and a 550. Both dry powerheads its close but the 550 hold more fluid and uses a bigger bar and chain(18" 3/8 vs. 16" 3/8lp) so ready to cut my 421 is noticeably lighter.

I will find out soon, just bought today. I did compare the size last year and they are close when sitting side by side. One thing I have always like about the Dolmar saws is the torque.

How does the 550xp compare to your 115i?

The beauty of the 420 is the price is half that of a 550xp. I just want to see if all talk about the 550xp is true and give a Auto tune a try.

Ok so what is your verdict?

How do they stack up 421 vs 550?

The verdict is i love both saws. The 550 revs faster, does have more grunt, and is smoother but a muffler mod on the 550 sets them even further apart. and the 421 is just a fun saw to run.

115i vrs 550XP?
The 115i is a favorite in the woods but getting beyond old friends, the 550XP has a lot more power and rpm and weighs less.
Most 115i's and 550XP's had .325 chain. But I run 16" Power Match bars and 3/8" Stihl RS chain.

545 vrs 550XP
I also have a 545 and it is actually more cost effective than the 550XP. The main difference you see is the 550XP is limited at 14,000 and the 545 is 13500. They carry the same rpm with the same power rating in the cut.
