Price for a clean 084 AV?

I'd pull the muffler, as Dave stated that muffler goes for around 200.00. A OEM piston and cylinder will cost you 400.00 I know that for a fact.
PTO bearing OEM is 50.00.
If you need a 084 it's not a bad deal if everything checks out.

Actually, I just ordered two new PTO bearings from Stihl (current replacement is the 880 bearing) and they were $16 each.

I sold my 084 last month. It ran flawlessly but was more saw than I could use comfortably. The buyer, a local logger, paid $850 delivered to his doorstep. I had bought it as a non-runner for $500 and had $150 in it for new parts. That thing was a beast! I had a 36" bar on it and two chains--both in excellent condition.

Most professional loggers would probably chime in. Several that I know now run an MS660, but they all agree that they miss the extra "grunt" in big logs that the 084 supplied. I believe that's called two more full horsepower.

I sold stock ready to go 084 PHO $500. Another stock with new b+c $700 and 2 woods ported ones $800-$900. Sold a piped one too.

Price is right if it mechanically sound.

I seem to remember those saws for some reason

You buy it yet? Your not gonna find many that clean anymore and the price aint bad.

I'm traveling to the saws in just over week. If they check out I'll be buying both for me and another AS member.

One thing to keep in mind, if the saw was used primarily for milling, the physical condition of the saw won't be a reflection of the wear on the saw. Milling saws don't get beat up like those being dragged through the forest all day. fwiw.

Yeah I did think about that. He claims it has boat loads of compression. We will see
