What dead tree is this?

Hello-

Can someone tell me what species of dead tree this is? I will be cutting it down in the next couple weeks and am wondering whether its worth chopping and seasoning for next winter.

Elm... likely American Elm from what I see in the pictures.

Is bark falling off of the tree? When elm dies the bark may fall off in large chunks. Looks like your blackberries are starting to green up.

upper limbs are peeling like cherry, saw a little silver maple in one pic so I conclusively certain that I am not sure. Show us some wood! And watch out for widowmakers

seriously though my vote is american elm or siberian elm.

Yeah... but it's dead, and a dead elm is just firewood waiting to be warmed up.

Peel some bark. If it has the centipede shaped lines on the trunk it's an elm.
