I went in to buy a new MS192-T today because I am working in Oregon and wanted to take advantage of no sales tax. I walked past a made in West Germany 024 AV/WB sitting on the floor with a $175 sticker on it which I thought might be a bit high. Then I took a look and the paint and plastic look fantastic and it has a brand new bar and chain. I asked the shop guy what he knew of the saw and he said the shop had put in a new piston and rings and that the cylinder looked good and everything checked out when they ran it, he even changed the oil cap gasket when he saw a bit of oil around it. I feel a lot better about this then buying one off of Craig's List or Ebay.

I did a search here on 024's and it sounds like they are a decent well liked saw. I have been thinking of modding one of my saws and it looks like I found my first victim.

I am still traveling and hope to try it out on Saturday; in the rain most likely. I will post some pics when I get home. I am stoked!

Well it fired right and and runs strong. It also turns out it is an 024 AVS so I can upgrade it to a 026 down the road. It cuts ok, but has a safety chain that needs to be replaced.

I am really glad I did not pass up this saw.

Nice choice. When you think about it, would you rather have a nice used professional built saw like a 024 or a plastic consumer saw that has less power? I think the answer is a no brainer. Congrats and enjoy

Seven and a half years late, I know. But that is a beautiful saw in great condition. I hope it worked out for you.
