I have a pair of 350's waiting for 346 p&c kits when I get the time and money.

Yep, it got a good used oem 45mm cylinder, meteor 353 flat top single ring piston. Ported and everything else

Probably screams, too. Best bang for your buck right there unless you're just hell bent on a closed port 44.3 top end for one o' those. But I digress..., LOL

Can't remember, Poulan 3400 crank seal part numbers, got to replace both, anyone have the numbers

OEM 530019097 Timken 253747 or SKF 6119

I find the Timken seals eaiser to find and cheaper.

I also have found that Rock Auto is a good place to order some of these seals, just got a box from them this morning for a few seals for the sandcast saws. Good price as well as cheap shipping makes it easy for me. Don't have to leave the house to even get them.

So here is a Stihl mount bar. When put on a saw installed with the husky to Stihl spacer with this groove cut in it, the saws oils beautifully.

Thanks Mark, has the numbers wrote down but couldn't find it, life saver bud..[emoji4]

Can someone explain the difference or reasoning in design on this cyls , you can see it in the cyl fins in pics.

I know the one labelled 5400 is the same as the 8500 cylinder and the fins were cut back a bit on the rear side for clearance for the new design AF / top cover.

Looking back through the cylinder application chart, the 5200, and 5400 cylinders were replaced by that new 8500 version. I assume the same for the 4900 and 7700 as well.

@Modifiedmark could explain it better as he modified a 5200 cylinder to fit on the 8500 If my memory is still working.

If they're yours, it's good to see that you found one for that nice 5200.

Tim your explanation is easy to understand and probable, Production change maybe late in the year?
Yes that cyl is for my Saw and finally got a Piston for it as well. Maybe get it together tomorrow, see how it gos here.

I just edited the post I made above after doing a little research.

I suspect you would find a 5400 IPL with the 5200 piston PN on it and maybe a later 5200 IPL with the 8500 cylinder PN. Looking at my 8500, there's not much room between the cover and the cylinder fins.

If you get a chance to cut with it, I'm pretty sure you'll be impressed. If not, I'll give you $75 for it. :)

You're a big spender Tim!

Thanks to Acornhill I was able to replace the piston and cylinder on the 3400 today. I thought I remembered that the bearings and seals are the same as the PTO side on the 10 Series McCulloch saws to I decided I might as well split it and replace the seals while I was at it, good thing I did.

There was about that much packed between the bearings and the seals as well.

It was all going back together well until I noticed this...

I will know the next time to take the oil cap off to prevent anything like this happening again. I now have more practice splitting the case, cleaning off threebond, you get the drift.

I spent an awfully long time trying to remember how the throttle & latch went together but I have the rear handle together and will keep plugging ahead.

Tim I believe your correct here, the 6900-8500 cylinders had the rear cylinder fins clearenced to clear the new style intake used on them along with the new plastic top covers. Its been some time since I have looked at them but you see the cylinder on the right has one less lower fin and from the top view you can see how much shorter the lower fins are.

I did not ever modify a 5200 cylinder to fit the 8500, just stating before that it would and could be done if nessasary to use a 5200 cylinder on a 8500.

I have never noticed the later IPL's showing the 8500 style cylinder as replacements for the earlier saws but that wouldn't surprise me any at all, it would make sense to only have to stock one part instead of two different ones.

Mark, that is Murphy's law, the keeper gets caught between the case halves. The handles can be tricky, must of the ones I have done do not have the trigger spring at all. The carburetor spring is strong enough to return the throttle own it's own. I hope I said that correctly.

I noticed it called for the 8500 cylinder on the 5400 IPL on Barrett's site and on the cylinder application chart for the 5200 as well.

Here are 3 from left marked # 12092 but I presume it is a #11259 my 1977 & 1978 4200 5200 IPL calls for 11258 11259, my 1984 4200 5200 IPL calls for 12073 12092. The 1985 4400 4900 5400 call for 12073 12074 12092. My 1985 6900 7700 8500 IPL calls for 12090 12091 12092. The top notch on the fin is for the plug wire clip and wire
