Found a Stihl 090 recently and trying to tear her down for a rebuild. Can anyone explain how to remove the starter cup? I've removed the nut from the crank and tried to lightly tap it, but it's on there tight. Do you just put a 2 jaw puller where the two holes are, or is there some special tool needed to get it off? Thanks i advance for any tips.

Thank you! I tried twisting by hand and it wouldn't budge. Got a oil filter remover, cut a strip from an inner tube so it'd grab and not scratch it. Broke free and after a couple of turns it got easy. Spun it off by hand. Now gotta dig up the flywheel puller thingamajig.

Certainly. I'm still assessing it for what she needs. Also trying to decide whether to repaint or leave it original.

How did you make out removing the starter ring. I’m in the same boat with a stihl 08 I picked up and I don’t want to mess up the flywheel.
