Ya ive done ash im not thinking its ash. It was really wet. Ive done cottonwood and it reminds me of it. But the heart was darken than this
 
Ya i think you on to something with the res elm. Now is this good wood to make things with or is it better as firewood
 
Looks like elm to me. Did it smell bad? I've never personally milled elm but heard it smells terrible.
 
No it did not smell bad. Now you got me thinking it might not be elm. It was very wet and fiberous
 
I'm not familiar with different varieties of ash but I've never seen the color go that far towards the sap wood. I've seen the dark heart wood but usually at least 6-12" of light wood near the bark.
 
There is a cross cut for Elm....

Ya im almost posrive its a elm of some sort. This is ash i have done. Reminds me of the rolling stone tounge. Now this is in pa to keep that in mind.
