I like it - how do you achieve this? Is it welded? etched? How would this introduce heat fatigue?

I assumed it was welded. I work in manufacturing, where heat introduced by welding significantly reduces the strength of the material, especially in cyclical loading cycles. Cyclical loading can cause fatigue failure, especially near welds.
