What is this?

I’m taking a guess that this is walnut, but I don’t really know. Picked it up for free at town dump. IMG_0513.jpg

Yep that’s walnut. Some people dislike burning it but I like it a lot. It seasons slowly like oak. Maybe that is part of the problem. It splits like a dream. I’ve heard complaints about excessive ash and I think that’s probably from the bark. That’s not a big problem since it comes off pretty easy green and practically falls off when dry. It smells really nice when burned. It reminds me of a pleasant fragrant pipe tobacco.

Then of course there’s the entertainment value of people who can’t believe you’d burn valuable black walnut. :envy:
