The 590 has a domed piston also. A stock 590 will be happy around 11.8 to 12.5k. There not high strung saws at all. You won't get close to the 13.5k limiter with a stock 590. The extra timing advance built into a 620 coil may help even a stock 590 but the fact its unlimited makes no difference.

They are 45 mm piston, smaller than others for the same cc's.That means they are longer stroke which translates to lower rpms and more torque.Dolmar 6100 is 47mm piston,it revvs like crazy with the shorter stroke.Anyway Echos are great saws, truth is i would grab an Echo above any other saw.

I talked with @Red97, he said there were gains to be had. Even if not, I don't think there's a saw out there that wouldn't like a gasket delete and associated port correction.

Echo CS 620p has a domed piston plus the 2 rings you have the higher compression.I don't think that a 590 would justifies a coil or a carb swap from a 620p.I am saying that because i don't think power difference between 2 saws is that big. Here in Greece 590 price is at 540€ (~622$) and the 620p in shindi colours (600SX) is at 660€(760$).~140$ price difference is very small, only the aluminium handlebar costs more.So if someone wants the 620 pays a little more and get it,if someone wants to save a little money gets the 590.Buy the 590 and start swapping parts just don't seems logic to me.Imho a 590 with a gasket delete, muffler mod and a retune is the perfect choise.I am waiting a 490 i bought from ebay for 230$ a couple days ago,i really like Echos but in the price of the 501SX(580$ in Greece) and the 620SX (price for it is above) i think i'll pass.Makita EA6100p is 550$,even the AT Huskies are close in price with Echos here.
I have put just the 620 coil on a 590 and just the 620 carb on for testing. I can say both are a improvement by them selves. But when used together with a muffler mod. it really makes a difference. Mine will pull a 32" bar now like it did the 24" before.

Probably like this

It's a really curious question. Looking over the SDS the bore, and stroke are identical. The 590 actually has a bit higher compression ratio but lower compression psi. 7.2:1 on the 590 at 146 psi vs 6.9:1 on the 620 at 154 psi. The only reason behind it I can think of would be the difference in the slug itself. 590 is a single ring and the 620 is a double ring or maybe the shape of the top? Carb on the 590/600 is the Walboro HDA-268 vs the Walboro HDA-316 on the 620/600sx.
It's apparently getting more air into the cylinder?...maybe

I'm looking at an Echo 620, is it possible to set it up to use a chain with 72 drive links? I have some new ones from my old sthil that I'd like to use.

Yes if you buy a different bar. I use a 24" husky bar to use 84 drive on mine. I had to elongated the chain adjuster hole.

Nate has a 20" 3/8 050 72dl bar for the 590-620 on his website. No adapters needed. Made by Tsu..

Now if your 063 chain it wont work on the bar
