What Stihl saw was/is better than it's successor?

I've been watching a few of Redbull661's excellent videos and also reading the recent comparisons between the ms462 and ms461.

Most videos show that the 461 outcuts the 462, even though there is some weight reduction to the 462. I think most folks will remember the 461 fondly, and not see the 462 as a big improvement.

On the flip side, this video by redbull661 shows that the 661 seems to be superior hands down to the 660 in every way.



What are the Stihl saws currently available that are clearly superior than their predecessors, and which ones aren't?

Why is there such a cult following of the 200t? It would seem from the prices of leftover 200ts that people hate the 201t?

Why do 200t's sell for more money? Look on Ebay it is a huge market there 200T's in boxes can go for 1000.00 or more and blown up used old beat junk ones go for 250.00. If I had 2 saws for sale one was a 200T and the other a 201 the 200T will sell faster! Climbers love them. I don't bother with the 201T's at all it ain't worth it they take forever to sell. And are a little bit harder to work on !

I suggested the 036 because I think it's better than the 360, which is similar but with floppy caps and a more stuffed up muffler. The 361 is definitely better than the 360.

I have my dad's 361(to heavy for an 87 year old) sitting here for about 2 years now. I'll pick up my 036 over it all of time . The 036 might not see as much run time now that I have the 462.

MS180. He's has a MS251 but dont run it a lot. He stihl cuts 15-20 cord a year.

I prefer the 039 saws to the 390 because of the fuel/oil caps. The flippy caps in my opinion were a step backward...

They should bring back the 009L, but with a 012 jug.

I can't imagine a 262 thats an improvement over the 261....

I had a 346 and sold it for a 241C

346xp is a simpler saw and cheaper to work on with comparable power and handling to the 550.

The 550s have had issues with carbs, leaks and generally quality control, but they're good saws.

Today I just sealed a deal on 2x 241c's at $475 each OTD. Very excited. I had found a couple others but dealers wouldn't budge from $520 or even $540 plus tax.

good move i bought 3 myself. Did the dealer let you keep the boxes?

Typically Stihl dealers keep the boxes. I believe this may be in part due to cloners. If you want a box with your saw you may have to buy an Echo...
Not sure if Husqvarna dealers give you the box or not..
