Just picked up a tidy 064.
Was rebuilt by a Stihl shop, & vendor said was all still parts.
Will put the bar & chain (24") on it this weekend & give it a run, will be good to see how it goes.
Went for the 064 as it's a bit lighter than the 066/660 saws a friend has, will be interesting to see how it compares.
Will add some photos when I can

Well today didn't go as planned. While gearing up to go look at this log to be cut, I took a chunk out of my finger & spent the afternoon in A&E waiting to get it stitched up...... 3 1/3 hours (& 6 stitches) later, I'm finally home, & still need to go look at this log

What’s with the filter cover, looks like an hd cover on an old style base. Which style of filter does it have?

Owch! On the knuckle.

Was it the chain? Always wear gloves if playing with chains.........
No, not the chain.
I was reaching into a dark corner to pull a sledge hammer out of a storage bin by its head, & caught my knuckle on the blade of a slasher as I was lifting it out........... Guess I know the slasher is still sharp & ready for use :p

I'm not sure yet, only got the saw the other day & haven't gotten into it yet.
Will post some pics as I open it up & may need some experienced guidance from the likes of you as I go through it to understand what I have.
Still a noobie with these saws, but have wanted an 064 for some time & this was the first tidy one I have seen in my part of the world at a semi-reasonable price

I have one of the real early 064 that came with the bosch coil. I got it used and prior owner had added the HD air filter.

The 064 had 4 versions of air filters. The 2 "stock filters", the HD filter which was available as a kit (needed different filter cover + more small parts), and a HD filter for Austrailan saws.

There was also a special AF cover for artic use

Got to fiddle a bit today, all looks fairly unmolested, needs a good clean, then will run it & see how it goes.
Plastic tank/rear handle, single port muffler, can't see the part no on the flywheel (is it on the back), foam air filter with prefilter, general Mark's & wear from normal use.
Where would I find the serial no, ir what else can I do to determine the age of the saw?
What issues should i watch for?
Any suggestions for performance & longevity?

I got a 64 in the 80s sill run great,cut 100s of cords,maybe 1000? best saw I had,i probley have had 30 saws,its real fun with a 16'' b& c,good luck!

Serial # should be stamped on top of right case where chain cover bolts on.

Pulling flywheel will tell you a bit, invest in a puller:

1) the flywheel ser# and number of key slots
2) Coil #
3) number and position of mounting holes for coil(s)

This will give you an idea on age based on ignitions/ser#

P.S. Hows the arm/hand doing?

Nice and clean, should heal up nicely, as long as you dont pull out the stitches by doing something you shouldn't :).
Great looking saw too by the way.

Tell us about how it goes.

I've a pretty clean 064 I've never had time to fix. Early/Bosch, clean P/C, I have a NOS mahle P/C, all parts there complete, has HD AF like yours.

The ignitions can be tough to figure out. But bigger as/more powerful than a 046 and just as light.
