I just picked up one of these at a garage sale for $5 :D
Tore it down today and the Piston/cyl looks primo! The thing is clogged with crud but that's easy. A few parts are missing but not too many.
I will need to source a new exhaust cover and some of the brake parts but over all a win.
6t 3/8" lo-pro...need bar and chain.
Will give the carb a kit but the fuel left in the tank was actually not bad at all.
Great compression.

Question:. What is the best way to strip down the chain brake section? Looks like one rivet needs to get ground out and 3 pins punched.

Am looking forward to getting this running as it was one of the first saws I was introduced to in the early 80s.
I have a running, early 020av, 38mm but want to keep this 40mm super.

Where to find parts? Not much on eBay right now.

I have a running super, a “to be fixed one day” avp, and 2 parts saws. No extra muffler cover, unfortunately, and no chain brakes. I do see a difference (just FYI) between the Chain Brake cover (sorta halfway covers the muffler) and the non-brake (on my Super). The one on my super seems to fit, the one on my “to be fixed one day” doesn’t look right. It does have provision for a chain brake (but I don’t see any linkage on this one).

Here’s pics in case they help:

Parts saws (see? They show up on occasion! I believe I’m $80 in on all 4 combined, including the runner.)

I got the brake assembly apart and cleaned out...all works now. I did screw up and didn't see how that little rivet was inserted...too much crud on the front where the bar stud goes through...I drilled it out . Will now need a replacement. But, at least it works. I did notice the different versions of the brake assembly in the book. I think this is an early to mid '80 model, definitely post '81 with the 9-digit sn. Part of my cover is broken but is not essential to operation so will keep it until I can find a replacement.
