It is quite surprising what split firewood reveals.
The first piece I split with my then new splitter, I found a 1/2" lag screw. Couldn't figure out why that piece was so hard to split! No staining on the wood. Put a nice dent in the blade. Did some filing, but the blade still bears the nick...

Been there, missed that. But I've also hit it as well!
It's really fun when you find an 8' long concrete patch inside the trunk.
Over the years I have found some interesting things in fence lines of farms we have bought. From fence wire to plow parts and every thing in between. Ruin a lot of chains.
I found a whole distributor in a huge crotch of an oak tree once.
Now that is amazing.
It was completely covered with no signs it was there. My saw found it though and yes it trashed the chain. I didn't know what it was until I split the fork and found it.
I have found countless nails, lots of hooks like someone had a dog chained up or a cloths line. I even found part of a cast iron fence in a log. I have seen lots of staining but never found what was in there. I have also found several outdoor vapor lights as well.
