Ive been kicking myself for selling off a Husqvarna 359 a few years back, and found one at a local shop. Haven't had a chance to check compression or check the piston, I'm mostly concerned about the clutch side cover.

Anything stick out that would cause you to pass on this saw? Price should be under $150....

That one has some pretty heavy use. I would budget in a complete overhaul. 359s use 6202s on both sides so that is a little cost savings. OEM seals and gaskets are cheap too.

Local Shop as in Saw shop or Pawn shop. Does it start and run....gas smell fresh? The recoil isn't retracting so the previous owner may have left a surprise or was simple and Didn't care to oil or clean anything. Seem the money is not going to be out of line but I haven't been paying attention to saw prices .....so..... Best of luck on your purchase.

It's a pawn shop....it was bone dry, so no chance to crank it. Compression feels good, I was mostly concerned with the ring around the clutch on the outside of the clutch side cover...is it normal?

No. That's either a hard impact on that side or a lot of heat. Those covers are very common though, any three series up to the 359 shares them.

That saw is a beater. $60.00 -75.00 tops if it runs good and you are desperate for a money pit.

In really good all OEM shape, updated, and running top notch they are a $300.00 dollar saw. Starting at $150.00, you will likely exceed the value of that saw and still have a saw that looks like a beater with a new muffler and clutch cover stuck on it.

Compression is 155psi, and no scoring on the exhaust side. Can't get the clutch side chain brake cover off, it seems to be stuck towards the upper portion near the handle....not sure what that's about.

Did these saws come with Chinese carbs?

Yes smart move. I bought one in need of a rebuild but in much better cosmetic shape for $100. I rebuilt with oem parts and ported/muffler modded/base gasket deleted it and have a kick butt saw with less than $300 total investment.
