Hi. My father and I planted this fig tree about 6 years ago. It has been doing well until recently. I noticed that the bark looks like it has been chewed up. This seems to be happening all over the tree - where the branches sprout off from the main trunks.
Any thoughts on what might cause this?
Thanks.

If you were in the snow belt and that was the depth of the snow I would say rabbits. Around the base of the tree above the roots, voles.

Sure does look like it was girdled by some kind of critter, not familiar with chipmunks but sure could be.

Thanks. Never expected that an animal would want to chew on bark but OK... Little bugger did this on almost every branch...
Is there anything I can do to help the tree survive or fix the damage? Is it going to die off at this point?
