i liked my 266se when I purchased it but in big wood we still can’t beat a 1200/2101. The 100cc saw is a work saver.

We have one here but don't use it much. Rough, grumbly, loud as hell and like trying to manage a race horse in the gate waiting to make the charge. Since we most cut tops left over from logging operations our smaller saws get most of the work. Doesn't help that I turned 60 this year and not as fond of lugging around a big saw when I can get it done with one half the weight!.........Cliff

I dont cut to earn a living but I do find a few side jobs every year where I need the 298xp. I run it every chance I get but with a 36" bar its definitely a special occasion saw.

The 100cc saws cut awesome with a shorter bar too. I had 24” diameter tops to cut. I always had the big guy (2100) with me anyway. Between the 266se and the 2100 cd we cleaned house. I don’t like putting longer bars on smaller power heads.

If I found one for the right price I'd pick it up. For now big old Jreds will have to do.20190321_175015.jpg

I still run a 2100...:baaa:

Let’s see a smaller saw with a longer bar match a 2100? What a beast, probably more saw than the average human could handle. Some say it’s too heavy, I say I’m at the gym when cutting. I kept it in the wood cutting not posing for sports illustrated.?... lol

I guess the industry is losing the real men like the ones it had over a century ago.

Got a 2101w a few years back for $100 in excellent shape. 32” bar and new full chisel chain. Got to drag it out last year for a 50” doug fir at dads place. Havent had so much fun cutting in years! Somethin about cutting huge trees with a big badass saw. Yes, loud and obnoxious! I typically don't find anything over 2’. And as usual i didnt get video. Only pics of the stump. I need a go pro on 24/7 so i stop missing stuff.

There’s no feeling with cutting the bigger diameter wood with a monster power head.
I’ll never part with a big cc saw again.

Not even that great a pics either. Avista dropped it cause it was close to their lines. Thought they might drop it on the lines for a while. Think they were training a newbie

Brings back memories,,,,start up,,,four pulls, pop, two pulls running I love it she comes to life.

Used to have a 2100, have a 288. Ran them for a while and the novelty wore off.

Have a couple worked over 460s and they are plenty fine pulling a ~36" bar. Most of the time I just grab a smaller saw though. 360, 362, 372, etc, with 24" bar.

You ain't cutting not 32" hard wood with a 460 on the east coast. Most guys are using 90cc or larger with a 28"-32". The 99cc 2100 with a 36" matches really well. I'm not humping the 298 around daily but for the larger trees it makes it a breeze. Most of my wood 24" and under gets cut with a ported 60cc with 24" bar though. I have a ported 288 with 24" or a 28" when needed.

I’d bet its more about modern technology and not having your teeth rattled loose than it is not being a “real man” and posing for sports illustrated
