I grew up in second growth aspen (popple) woods. Best deer hunting there was to be had. About every place was a bedding area and the deer followed the same paths to the corn fields to feed till the snow got about 3 foot deep.
Grouse hunting was the best i ever experinced and probably will not see it like that again.

We cut trails thru the woods off the trails the neighbour dozed when they were logging every thing in the county off for pulp wood. Pulp wood was a booming bussiness till the later 60's. Guys who cut pulp always brought out a truck load they cut up from tops.
We boys were getting a nickle a log in the summer to peel them with a draw knife. Learned real quick how to sharpen the draw knife too.

Dad had it cut again in 1990 which I didn't know. Arrived at my deer blind that November and the whole section of woods was stumps and a few tops yet.
Thought going to be a horriable deer season.
Was the best season I've ever had could see. deer coming 200 yards off.
