Well, I saw an advert. Ms 180 and ms 025 68 USD few parts missing, one works (it runs and dies) other he didn’t know.

Told him i’d give him 46 USD for the pair and if he delivered.

Settled on 58 USD

Both will just be a bit of fun, strip down clean and rebuild! Here is the process thus far!

Good luck with your build.
I found a 018c at the dump one year. Ended up being a great find, cleaned the spark plug and put some fresh gas in and it fired right up! Was missing the air filter cover and the bar and chain were shot, but for about $70 in parts I have a good running saw.
Have used it for about 6 or 7 years now clearing limbs on hunting trails.

For what they are,the 018/180 are a pretty good little saw!

What a great little saw, I had two of them. One I beat to utter sh*t for ten years and it would still run and cut. The other I bought new and put an adjustable carb on it. Ran real nice and then sold it to a good friend who wanted a decent chainsaw.

Reading this thread makes me want another.

Get yourself a handful of the Walbro WC215 carbs from amazon or ebay. Work on both the 180 and the 250. You'll have to drill holes in the case of the 180 though. Then you can muffler mod them, and get more power out of them.

I have spent more hours than I care to think about today stripping and cleaning - didn’t even eat dinner!

Well the piston and cylinder are out, what are your thoughts? Worth a try to get it running like this? Remember this saw cost me 28 USD... It’s scored but I’m sure you’ve seen worse. Tempted to put it all together and see how it runs. If not great, i’ll replace the crank seals, top end and cylinder. I think bottom end is ok? How can I test the bottom end to see if it’s good? I can’t remember if a slight bit of side to side wiggle of the connector rod is ok or if it’s up and down!

If you want to go cheap, remove the rings, use a flat file to gently and I mean gently, bring down the high spots on the piston, and finish with scotchbrite, reinstall rings, and clean any transfer off the cylinder.

or just get a meteor piston and clean the cylinder and replace crank seals and go from there.
pressure test after to make sure its all good.
Hey good to see you got a project, see they are out there.

Hey mate! Yes very surprised! could I use a wet dry abrasive paper to smooth it? Does it make
A noticeable difference smothing it down?
I don’t have a pressure tester :(

No dont use abrasive paper, it will embed in the soft piston, and ruin your cylinder.

re pressure tester, get a cheap mitivac chonga clone for 20bucks

Um piston is toast incorrectly placed piston stop ?
Is that a hole right thru the crown, as it looks like it from the picture.

You might be tempted to see if it will run, but the hole in the piston will stop you succeeding is my guess.
If you want to go real cheap, for a bit of a wait on delivery and probably less than Aussie $20, you can get an entire ready made engine from Farmertec for the 180 and drop it straight in.

No way I would put it together without a new piston and rings....especially after you have cleaned everything up. That piston with a hole in the top is no good.
