It looks clean but is there a difference between magnum 2 cases and regular o56AV cases?

Yes 056 Magnum crankcase is different from the earlier 056AV & 056 Super, for one the mounting holes for the Magnum cylinder have a wider spacing.

Already read through that post thoroughly before buying this saw. Was hoping for the Bosch set up but being a Magnum 2 it came with the SEM. I have the NOS OEM module so that is not a problem at this time just trying something of interest with the old one. If it don't work it will be opened up to work out a repair if possible. I lurked a bit before joining

I tried welding mine did not work so well. What was easy and effective was to fabricate a aluminum piece with JB weld. It has held up for years. Thanks

I sent a faulty SEM to Foggy a few years back, he said at the time it wasn't repairable.....(It's in his thread).

I do recall seeing that. This one the casing was cracked. When coils crack you can bake the moisture out of them and get a bit more life out of them so why not try it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

After baking for 2 hours and applying epoxy to the cracks it went from a complete no start condition to starting until warm up thet it dies. It is possible that the coil in the ignition is what killed this one not a capacitor like the Bosch.

It's common to see a 056 Mag with a faulty SEM run until the saw / ignition warms up then it dies.

Have you opened up a SEM ignition module ?

The old sem got trashed. Not messing with it anymore.
