I am looking for some recommendations on fall fertilizers. My local supply store always says just do the old 10 10 10 on everything. Ive ready over the years, trees need different proportions? Would like to do all my treating this winter after we clean beds and leaves are gone.

Tree fertilization should be based off a soil test if you are going to be applying macro nutrients. Bio-stimulants and root promoting products are good to use in the fall. I use Horticultural Alliance's Die Hard products quite a bit.

+1 on the soil test. I talk more people out of fertilization than I sell.

If it is a large established tree and nothing has changed with the root zone and the leaf color looks good, why fertilize??????

If it is showing a deficiency, figure out what that deficiency is before just dumping more NPK into it.

I've been very happy with Spectrum Analytic - spectrumanalytic.com - for soil samples. I've also used algreatlakes.com and was happy with their service.
